True Crime Novels are just a little bit more interesting because you know it actually happened and the ideas didn't come from some person's head as a "Hey! Let's see if the reader will but it" sort of way, but as a "OMG ... someone actually did this and it worked!?"
EXACTLY. I love reading True Crime. Some of my favorites by far are linked below, they're the ones that are written by the actual scientists who studied the bones and other evidence in specific cases. Some of the criminal stupidity can make your head hurt.

Death's Acre by Willam Bass & John Jefferson

Beyond The Body Farm: Bill Bass & John Jefferson

Teasing Secrets From the Dead: Emily Craig

Devil in the White City (This is about H.H. Holmes and his Murder Castle at the world's fair in chicago at the turn of the century. It's phenomenal in that it uses primary source documents and tells the story of two people, the architect who built the fair from the ground up and the killer who hunted fair patrons and brought them home to die. Love it!)

In the first novel written by Dr. William Bass, he mentions how a man killed a homeowner for money and goods. Tried to blow up the body, and when dynamite didn't work(the body was only blown in half, not obliterated), tried to get a dog to eat it. When THAT didn't work, he finally set the house on fire with the body in it. Needless to say, once they unraveled the mystery, the crook was caught really quickly...

Re: Criminal minds. I know it's unrealistic in some ways, but I just love it.

Tell me about how Criminal Minds is unrealistic, but the cases are truly interesting. Some so mind boggling ... I'm like "wow!"

Exactly. I like to have my mind boggled!! To an extent, and CM does that for me! My favorite case in each season is as follows (granted, I don't know the names of them all, but still...):

Season 1: The case that took them out to the Indian reservation and Hotch had to team up with the reservation cop. That was funny!

Season 2: The two parter, when Reid was kidnapped by the kid with MPD

Season 3: The episode before Garcia gets shot. Where she's snarling at Morgan and then decides to take the guy up on a date.

Season 4: I think it's ep 16, the one about the call girl, who's killing off her clientele. That was a favorite especially because it was in TX.
