Exactly. I like to have my mind boggled!! To an extent, and CM does that for me! My favorite case in each season is as follows (granted, I don't know the names of them all, but still...):

Season 1: The case that took them out to the Indian reservation and Hotch had to team up with the reservation cop. That was funny!

Season 2: The two parter, when Reid was kidnapped by the kid with MPD

Season 3: The episode before Garcia gets shot. Where she's snarling at Morgan and then decides to take the guy up on a date.

Season 4: I think it's ep 16, the one about the call girl, who's killing off her clientele. That was a favorite especially because it was in TX.

Tell me about how Criminal Minds is unrealistic, but the cases are truly interesting. Some so mind boggling ... I'm like "wow!"

True Crime Novels are just a little bit more interesting because you know it actually happened and the ideas didn't come from some person's head as a "Hey! Let's see if the reader will but it" sort of way, but as a "OMG ... someone actually did this and it worked!?"
EXACTLY. I love reading True Crime. Some of my favorites by far are linked below, they're the ones that are written by the actual scientists who studied the bones and other evidence in specific cases. Some of the criminal stupidity can make your head hurt.

Death's Acre by Willam Bass & John Jefferson

Beyond The Body Farm: Bill Bass & John Jefferson

Teasing Secrets From the Dead: Emily Craig

Devil in the White City (This is about H.H. Holmes and his Murder Castle at the world's fair in chicago at the turn of the century. It's phenomenal in that it uses primary source documents and tells the story of two people, the architect who built the fair from the ground up and the killer who hunted fair patrons and brought them home to die. Love it!)

In the first novel written by Dr. William Bass, he mentions how a man killed a homeowner for money and goods. Tried to blow up the body, and when dynamite didn't work(the body was only blown in half, not obliterated), tried to get a dog to eat it. When THAT didn't work, he finally set the house on fire with the body in it. Needless to say, once they unraveled the mystery, the crook was caught really quickly...

Re: Criminal minds. I know it's unrealistic in some ways, but I just love it.

Huh. I've just realized I like crime t.v. shows, but I don't like crime novels unless they're true crime, but I dislike true crime shows. Weird.
    You are weird!

The finale rocked, so sorry you missed it.
Actually, the finale was one of three or four episodes this year I did see, I'm disappointed I missed the rest.

I'm really not sure why the lack of rotation bugs me, maybe 'cause it's the only thing I can point to and say "that's not how they do it!"

For some reason I find it easier to suspend disbelief when it's a lot of things I'm ignoring, which is why I read fantasy and sci fi and not generic fiction.

    It was the pigs.
agreed, but the hiss of the respirator also did it for me. it was played up much more in the book than the movie. I've been fascinated with serial killers ever since i saw "Silence Of The Lambs". when i worked for the pharmacy I even got to deliver to John Robinson's (sp) house. He was a Kansas City serial killer that used the internet to select victims.

Yeah, I think it conflicts with Mythbusters, right? Besides, I really only have room for one serious TV obsession, and I think we all know what that is.

Yeah, not realistic, rotation-wise. But other than that, a great show, all in all. And yet, at the same time, working retail can also burn you out on humanity if taken in long stretches of time, so... <shrugs> I don't know. I try to realize that this isn't the History Channel/Learning Channel/Discovery Channel. Fiction is your friend, and if it happens to have some true to life info, then groovy. If not, oh well. It's entertainment.

The finale rocked, so sorry you missed it. Maybe they'll show it as a rerun? It really was very Hannibal-esque, and the ending. Oh my gods the ending...so....not...COOL!!! Trying not to spoil it for you, but zomg, HOTCH!! You can't be shot and killed!! Nooooooooo!!!!

Rummy: My fave characters on the show are Garcia, Reid, and Rossi. I love Garcia and her with. I like to think I'm kinda like her, just not as tech savvy. It's more attitude-wise. 'I'm a consummate smartass.

I enjoy the show, but it I was always doing something on Wednesday this year and I didn't realize that CBS wasn't streaming it online until it was too late. I did watch the finale, though.

The only thing that bugs me is that normal rotation in the BAU is something like six months, 'cause doing that kind of thing you burn out on humanity really quickly.

I'm not sure why it bothers me, most shows I watch aren't very realistic.

....Crap, I just realized the season finale of Southland was on tonight. At least I can watch that online.

Haven't watched since Mandy Patinkin left.
I've watched it on and off since he left, but (for me) it just isn't the same without him.
I forgot the finale was on last night - drat, I was going to watch it.

I was watching "Criminal Minds" with hubs last night. When they showed the pigs, I at first thought about the Serial Killer, Joe Ball, but he fed his victims to his alligators. Then I did a little research and realized it could have been modeled after Robert Pickton, a pig farmer from British Columbia.

Mr. Rum thinks Shemar Moore's character is thinking of leaving the team. I hope not ... he's one of the 2 reasons I mainly watch the show (Matthew Gray Gubler is the other reason ). Oh yeah, I do like the plots of the shows too.

I'm hoping they're not going to kill off Hotch. (Remember, when Garcia got shot?)

I cannot wait for the show to come back! I have to get the seasons on DVD. Until then, I'll have to watch all the re-runs during the summer. (I did enjoy the Wil Wheaton epi).

ETA: When the show first premiered, Mr. Rum wanted to watch simply because Mandy Patinkin was in it. I saw that Shemar Moore (from Young & Restless fame) was on it and that's why I wanted to watch it - mainly to see if he could acquit himself as an actor in drama as compared to an actor in a soap opera. We've been fans ever since. We've enjoyed it even more since Joe Montagna was added.

Also, since I live in VA, I get giggles when they portray the VA area. #1. From the pilot epi - Dumfries is NOT as rural as they show. #2. Potomac Mills Mall is NOT a 2 level mall. We're just waiting now for the 3 level Landmark Mall. *snerk*

I watch "Criminal Minds" every week. and i spent most of the episodes last night, wondering if Thomas Harris would sue. i found the similarity to "Hannibal " so great.
    It was the pigs.

Man eating pigs. they'll get ya every time. that and the crippled guy kinda did resemble Hannibal when they had him strapped in and masked. Or is that just me. Regardless, I'm glad I found another fan! My mom thinks I'm weird for liking the show, but it's so neat! I can't wait for season 5, but I'm wondering if Hotch is going to be killed off. I thought they were killing of Reid last week...

He was awesome as Gideon. But Joe Matagna (sp?) has brought an interesting dimension to the show. I'm glad I stuck with it, it's great! You should give season 3 a chance, AA.
