  • Too warm! WAY too warm!

So my mom's birthday is tomorrow. I made the cupcakes this morning.

Y'all can see where this is going, right?

Well, the cupcakes cooled down nicely, so I figured I'd go ahead and frost them now, that way I wasn't taking time tomorrow that I need for the 5-hour drive.

It's about 80-90F in my kitchen on a day like today. There's a window, but no cross-ventilation. The tip I used (225 drop-flower, for those in-the-know) has very tiny openings to create a fairly delicate result. I was spiraling out from the centre to make the cupcakes look like flowers, and it was working!

Until I realized that the bag was starting to feel...a bit mushy. A bit TOO mushy.

And then I looked at the last few cupcakes. And then the few before that.

I need to re-do about half the cupcakes tonight, when the kitchen isn't *quite* so warm. They're just a puddle of frosting. DAMN!

And of course I was rushing, because I only had a half-hour before work, and I wanted to get them done and put them in the fridge to get them away from the cats. Who will, for some odd reason (they've *never* had people food), go after buttercream frosting. And only if it's vanilla. I've made lemon, chocolate, and strawberry, but only the vanilla attracts them.

*sigh* Guess I'm not getting out early tomorrow morning. I really hope I don't hit weekend traffic.

Last week it hit 102 degrees here in New Mexico.

But I really feel for you. I hate when the icing freaking melts! What a mess!

      ... And now I'm finding confectioner's sugar....EVERYWHERE.

      >.<

I should have taken the time to shower before work. Even if I was already late.

      *sigh*

On the other hand, it's mid-July in NYC. It could have been a LOT hotter, and then the whole attempt would have been futile. So there is that.

...Wait...102? I would probably melt. I usually become totally useless when we hit triple digits here.

It's not bad. The difference between 102 here in the desert and 102 in NYC is you're city on water; lots of humidity there. It would be like living in Houston again. out here is a dry heat, similar to your oven.

102 to you here wouldn't feel nowhere near as hot as the gauge reads. Right now it's supposed to be 95. It feels like it's about 80 in TN (we do have some humidity today, 22%. We rarely get anything over 30 and the average seems to be 15%).

Huh. That actually doesn't sound too bad. It is the humidity that kills me. That and the air quality. It positively DIVES during a hot day.

And yes, my cats have fantastic taste. Confusing, but fantastic

That's another nice thing out here. There doesn't seem to be nowhere near as much pollution. (duh, I'm relatively rural new mexico) Even The DataJager's asthma is better out here. I haven't seem him use his inhaler since he came back out (over two weeks ago now). In houston, it was definitely an everyday occurrence.

                That does sound very attractive.

I think I'd miss my winters, though. Even in NY, I don't get enough snow to satisfy me.

I really need to move back to NH one of these days. My frosting never turns into mush there!
