This is why you're supposed to wash any fruit before you eat it.

Yeah, but I don't think Raid is an approved chemical for produce!

Raid does some crazy stuff to you. When I was about 12 my little brother who was about 7 decided it would be really funny to jump out of the bathroom and spray me with raid. Within about a half hour I got tunnel vision and then everything went blurry, got hot flashes and cold sweats and started puking my guts out for a few hours. Probably should have gone to the doctor, but I didn't. If that's just skin contact I would hate to see what happens from ingestion.

I hope they find some other way to keep the fruit bug free other than raid.

I was always under the impression that wherever the produce is grown, that safe pesticides are used on the crops before they are shipped off to a grocer.

Using Raid to clean the produce must mean budget cuts to the extreme...

I don't think he was operating on SOP. Good call on contacting Krogers. But yeah - it's still a good idea to wash fruit before eating it.

I don't have much experience with food crops, since Dad always grew cotton, but the EPA (or FDA or some governmental something or other) does regulate what kinds of pesticides and herbicides can be used with which kinds of crops, at what stage of the growing process they can be used, and how they can be applied. Really nasty stuff can't be applied via crop duster, because wind could carry it away from the intended crop; they have to use hi-boys. I would imagine that the rules concerning food crops would be tighter than those for, say, cotton.

Fly spray is nasty stuff. What it effectively does is prevent your muscles from relaxing, so they keep contracting. This is why when you spray a fly it buzzes even more 'til it hits the deck because all the energy stored within it has been used.

I think I'll pass on that fruit cheers.

Thinking about this, I would almost consider this food tampering or adulteration. I mean, he's adding poison directly to food in a store where people are unaware (for the most part) that he's doing it.

I am actually wondering if a call to the police is in order.

Our store has a spray that is safe for food. You get gnats and flys in the store after the produce arrives and because people touch all the fruit it gets bruised and attracts more bugs so we spray the fruit every morning.
