  • Does anyone else watch True Blood? (NO SPOILERS, PLEASE)

    I'm obsessed with this show.

I've been reading the books (and enjoying them immensely) but I was somewhat leery of getting into the show. My husband and I reduced our cable package for the summer, and since we were saving money, I thought I'd keep it up this fall. But then I rented some of True Blood on DVD while on vacation, and I'm hooked. Looks like I'm ordering HBO.

Bill is cast perfectly, as is Sookie. Tara's hardly in the books at all, but she's so funny on the show that I'm glad they expanded her character. I'm surprisingly pleased with their casting and adaptation.

Unfortunately, Mr. Boozy is not as enthralled and will not watch with me. He calls it "Vampire porn for the married woman."

If you have to ask, it's probably better posted at www.fratching.com

I haven't watched the show yet, but it's up next on my Netflix queue, whenever I can be arsed to send back my last batch of movies.

I have, however, been reading the books (I'm on #3 right now) and I'm hooked!! Maybe I'm a lameass for jumping on this thread before I've even watched the show, but I have a feeling I'm gonna enjoy it. Pity I had to get rid of HBO just when they started putting on shows I might enjoy again (I got rid of it some time ago, and as I'm thinking of ditching my satellite company anyway, I'm not in a hurry to get HBO again).

I'll be glad to have someone else to geek out over it with, married or no.

I've commented on this before, and I shall again.

I love this show. Brilliantly written, directed, acted, and produced. And I am not what one would call a "vampire nut." I just like good entertainment.

Of course, I did not come to the show via the books. I shall read them once I am done with the show...which I hope will be a while. I saw ads for it when it first started, and saw that it starred Anna Paquin, someone I already had a huge crush on from the X-Men movies. And boy, does she ever shine in True Blood! If anything, my crush has gotten bigger. Not that it is, by any stretch, the only reason for my watching the show, as I have indicated above.

I've watched the first 2 episodes. I've recorded the rest so far but haven't had time to watch them yet.

I'm really enjoying it so far.

          I........Love........This.........Show

I have not read the books yet but plan to at some point.

But yes I love this show it's great...in fact the whole vampire movement thing happening lately is great....I like the more modern stories of them where they actually intermingle with humans and either don't bite humans at all or only the willing.

I watch it and really enjoy it. I love the books, and was a little bit wary of getting in to the show, but I do like what they've done with it.

I love True Blood!!!! I started reading the books years ago and was hooked from the opening page They have changed things in the series, but I think for the better mostly. It's hard to translate a first person narrative into a television series, so they had to expand and modify some things.

I like that they appear to be following the basic outlines of each book (series 1 = book 1, series 2= book 2) If they keep following this formula, I cant wait for Season 4!!!

The casting is brilliant. I wasnt too sure about Bill when I first saw him on screen as I had a slightly different image of him in my head, but he has grown on me. And Eric?....Oh Boy!!..... just a huge lump of YUMMY!!!

Typically catch it On Demand. It does just enough to keep me wanting to watch the next episode. I don't think I'm really hooked on it though. The first few episodes I could definitely take either way. But, as the characters develop more, I get more into it.

So what do you think of the BBC series "Being Human" and their take on vampires? Just curious.

I think that show is funny . I like that Mitchell isn't perfect, and is justifiably tormented. I like how most of the vampires really want to kill and feed. I like how the vampires don't really have any insane superpowers. They're MOSTLY just vicious.

I think if anyone is gonna make a show about humans and vampires co-existing, True Blood and Being Human do the best job of portraying how that might go.

I've seen the first season of TB, and it's really good!

                      Almost as good as Twilight.

                      (hahahaha... just kidding! )

                      (Twilight is way better...)

                      (HA! got you again! )

Ok, to be honest, Twilight was rather ... meh!

True Blood is quite well done! It makes sense (for all the supernatural elements), it follows on, it's consistent... and it has Anna naked in it!

For another take on the whole vampire thing, the BBC did a mini-series called Ultraviolet some many years ago...I'd suggest a quick peek at that too!

I've read the books, and I watch the show...I have to say the show is infinitely better than the books are, especially the last 2 or 3 that have come out. Charlaine Harris seems to have fallen into the "I can't pick a single major plot and stick with it" trap, and I've found her later Sookie Stackhouse books read like a collection of disjointed novellas as opposed to a coherent novel. I like how the show is not following the story arcs in the books exactly, and the characters in the show vs. the books are way more likeable to me.

I was SO resistant to watching this show, since I typically never got into the other HBO shows that people always raved about. I also hate Twilight, and I tried reading Anne Rice but it seems like nothing more than written softcore porn so I'm not much of a vampire person

But I read a summary of the books on Amazon, and I was so intrigued I ordered the whole set. After finishing the first book I watched my bf's season 1 DVDs. I like reading ahead of the show's progression to see what they do differently. I'm just finished episode 2 of season 2, so I still need to catch up.

I've enjoyed the show very much. The casting is spot on, the acting is top notch IMO and the show is very well written.

I particularly love the portrayal of Godric the somewhat detached 2000+ year old vampire.

I do want to check out the books but, like Jester, I'm most likely going to wait until the series is over with. It's not like i have time for reading anything other than school books this semester anyway
