Grand Marinier and a good brandy are also good in cocoa ... just saying
    So is Bailey's.

Edit: posted this before I saw Jester's reply! Oops! I'm going to have to try that Girl Scout Cookie drink; is the recipe online?

You forget, Greenday, that my bar is a restaurant bar, with a full (and awesome) menu, and thus hot chocolate would not be that unusual. I agree that at a full on BAR bar, it would be a bit odd, though not completely out of whack, especially in colder climes.
Yes, but if you order hot cocoa at a bar, you are paying for it. A lot of bars won't charge for a soda or a water.

I think the reason is because coffee and tea are traditionally social non-alcoholic drinks. (black tea for example was used as the "weak" portion of a traditional "proper" punch) where as hot chocolate is traditionally a special circumstance and usually enjoyed solo (comfort drink).

It's really quite simple. If at a bar, just order it as I said....Bailey's and peppermint schnapps in a hot chocolate. If the bartender is uncertain, it's basically a half shot of each in a hot chocolate. If you're at home, well, half a shot of each in a hot chocolate, just like at a bar!

I would never expect hot chocolate to be free.

Which is why I'd never order it a bar if I'm going to be sober that night.

I gotta be in the right mood for it but i'll have it now and again. As for the price would it have to do with the price of chocolate or something? No idea.

              amusing story

few years back got a blizzard that was IMPOSSIBLE to go anywhere. I'm talking cars were BURIED in the snow.

Was at my gf's place which was about a block and a half from a liquor store.

I startee calilng teh place around 10am and called every hour until the manager (who was in, he was waiting for ANY cashier to show up so he could open) finaly said in a VERY tired voice (my voice is pretty distinctive im sure he knew it was me calling lol) 'yea were open'. so i truge down there. bought a bottle of baileys.

and spent the day/night (snowed for about 2 days straight) drinking cocoa w/baileys in it and watching movies

              best...blizzard...ever lol
Common sense... So rare it's a goddamn superpower.

That's what I meant, what were the proportions. I'm one of those who needs recipes with exact specifications. Hubby can throw this, that and the other together and have it turn out brilliant; if I did that, it'd be garbage. So thanks for the recipe!

General method: Take a shot glass. Fill it approximately half full of Bailey's, and the rest with peppermint schnapps. Dump contents of shot glass in cup of hot chocolate.

OCD method: With the appropriate measuring devices, put 3/4 of an ounce (or .75 oz. if you prefer) of Bailey's in your hot chocolate, followed by 3/4 (or .75) ounce of peppermint schnapps.

Important note: make sure you leave enough room in the hot chocolate mug for 1.5 oz. of liquor. Alternatively, put the 1.5 oz. of liquor in first, then dump in the hot chocolate.

Really depends how anal you are.

My favorite mix is Land O' Lakes (yes, the same guys who bring you the butter). They have a box full of different flavors like mint, raspberry, french vanillia, dutch chocolate, and a couple others I don't remember off hand. The mint and raspberry are my favorites.

Land O' Lakes is my favorite too. I like their cinnamon one, and the supreme chocolate is perfect for spiking.

They used to carry the little packets at Publix, but don't seem to any more. I'm going to have to order it online.

I've made cocoa with Hershey's Special Dark cocoa powder, sugar and milk. I still haven't gotten the mix quite right but hey, it's a fun experiment.
You need to add vanilla and a pinch of salt. Hershey's has a recipe online that is delicious.

But they also have the same free coffee/tea in the seating area, so I don't know why anyone would bother to buy Starbucks
Because free coffee is generally crap. The Starbucks tastes better.

My absolute favorite wintertime drink is the Starbucks salted hot chocolate. It tastes like drinking a chocolate covered pretzel.
