Unfortunately, I don't HAVE a thermostat. I have a knob. An unlabelled knob. It goes something like 3 full rotations, and I usually have it at 1/4-1 full rotation. The issue is my heater takes ages to get going. I'm not talking "an hour." I'm not talking "a couple hours." I'm talking twelve hours. Possibly more to get to its full temp.

How do I know this? Simple. One day I'd asked my friend who lives in the same building to nip in to my place and give the knob a twist. Unknown to me, he put it up near full. That was around 4pm. Until I went to bed at 11pm, I was fine. Then by 5am, I woke up sweating and gasping in the muggy air. Yech.

I don't really want a space heater. For one, heat is included; I have to pay for the electricity. Two, my bedroom is carpeted and I wouldn't feel safe putting a space heater in there.

Right - there's your answer why it's cold. Landlord is paying for it.

I understand not wanting an electric space-heater for money reasons. But I must point out that there are space heaters that use forced hot oil inside a radiator-like container, and these are no more of a fire hazard than running any other appliance that heats up when in use, such as a TV set. I have used these for years and never have to turn them higher than 3 on the thermostat and "medium" on the power (they go up to 6 and "high"). The setting I use most is 2 and "low", and at this point it's not even too hot to touch with your bare hand.

We have a programmable thermostat and it is set to 60F when we're away and at night (when we're under the covers and/or the cat joins us). When we're home it goes to 67F.

During AC season, 78F when we're in and 82F when we're home and at night (ambient temps are rarely that high).

That device did not take long to pay for itself and was no more difficult to install than a dimmer switch.

I like about 69-70F. I like it warm. No me gusta cold. Next time Jester needs an apartmentmate, I'm moving to Key West.

I had to turn on the A/C yesterday, since it was 75 and extra humid.

For some reason, my apartment stays really warm, even when it's cold out. I didn't even turn on the heat when it snowed last week; I just grabbed a blanket.

I'm not sure what the thermostat is set at here...all I know is that with 6 windows all facing north*, it's not always pleasant in my apartment in the winter.

*Only a big deal because 98% of the time, the wind is coming out of the north from November until March...more or less.

I don't have the heat on at all, can't afford the electricity to run the heaters (On a Meter, which is handy but also a pain at times) Instead I do with just a small gas heater that costs less than what it would for the heaters in my flat.

As for me, I don't leave the heat on. It stays between 55F and 65F in here with the heat off. Sometimes I turn it on for a few minutes, but I don't leave it on.

60.....Its usually 58, but I'm getting cold! When the boy's over I'll crank it to 63-65....but I like keeping my heating bill low (hmm..I need to pay that soon)

Ours is set, by my preference, at 63. And that's only for my lady. It'll get the place up to around 70 before it shuts off.

For myself, 60 is just about perfect, and it rarely gets cooler than that.
