What's your thermostat set at? (whiny, ranty)

I'm in the office, sitting underneath a blower. In winter. The place feels like a meat locker. Thing is, the blower only blasts my workstation. If I sit anywhere else, I have to take off the sweater I put on to protect me from the blower. Seriously, I can SEE my papers and notes fluttering in the breeze.

At home: Roommate Red seems to like it cold. And this isn't the usual "I like it cold" where he wants the thermostat at 67 and I keep cranking it up to 72. He likes it in the middle FORTIES. I have come home in October and found him sitting directly in front of a box fan in front of an open window, with his shirt off, and the entire apartment like a wax museum. It's DECEMBER and I have to keep yelling at him to shut the window.

I keep the thermostat set at 65 because of my asthma. Not too hot, not too cold. I used to barely use the furnace but keep the fireplace and woodstoves burning until the dust from the ashes started bothering me.

Sounds like you might need a good electric blanket on the bed and a small space heater you can move around the place to keep yourself warm. Different people have different ideas of what's comfortable. My son and I think the temp is just right in our home but my daughter thinks it's too low and that's what we had to do for her, electric blanket and a space heater.

I live in an old house with an old heater- my settings are Low, Medium, High. We're sitting between Medium/High most of the time now. Brrr!

My thermostat is set at 75, and I usually run a little space heater in the living room. Utilities are pretty cheap here, so I make myself comfortable. Although my feet are constantly FREEZING.

Hopefully they'll get this straightened out for you.

But also, please be sure that the cord running to the lights that are out on the balcony, isn't pinched by the door!

I'm going to call the office again. I'm just afraid they're going to come in and say it's the cord through the door or whatever, or the window cracked open in the bedroom (and the bathroom, since there is no exhaust fan in there). But still, I don't recall having this problem last year. When I called last time she said the thermostat should be at 68 for the building.

I don't really want a space heater. For one, heat is included; I have to pay for the electricity. Two, my bedroom is carpeted and I wouldn't feel safe putting a space heater in there.

I would check to see if there are heat standards for renters where you live. 64 sounds awful low.

I use space heaters (very carefully) and keep my heat a little lower than Id like. But since electric is WAYYY cheaper than gas in my neck o' the woods, it makes more sense.

Would it cost more to run a space heater? Would be a simple solution, since your landlord doesn't seem to care. Although, there are laws that govern how low they can allow the temp to fall.

I don't know what the building's thermostat is set at, but the heater knob in the apartment is turned all the way up to 8 (as high as it goes). (That is all the control we have over the heat.)

I am fucking freezing.

The windows in my bedroom are closed and locked, and today I put the thermometer in there and closed the door all day while I was gone, so I could see what the temperature actually is in there. When I got home at about 6pm, I checked - 62 degrees. It has hovered around 62-65 in the hallway (where the thermometer usually is) for the most part since it got colder the last few days. Back in October, when we had a bit of a cold spell (in the 40s), it also didn't get above 64 or so. I called the office then, and they said someone would come look at it, but they never did (if they did anything that didn't involve coming up to the apartment, they didn't inform us).

Sitting in my living room right now, I feel like there is a window open. My roomate put up the Christmas lights on the balcony yesterday, and the cord comes through the sliding glass door to get to the outlet in the living room. Which makes the door unable to lock, though it appears to be closed (there is a bar in the bottom of the track to keep it from opening). I don't feel any air coming around the door, though (I do feel air coming in from under the air conditioner, though, a little bit).

Roomie, however, is not cold. She sleeps with her window open all year, because her room gets stuffy. I don't want to sit here shivering all winter under a blanket.
