  • Help Guys I don't want to be a SC

So I got a ticket today from my campus parking enforcement. Let me lay the scene, I exit... walk to my car and see a ticket. I pick it up shocked and see the reasoning is "Improperly Parked-Two Spaces" Now I looked all around my car and the only thing I could see is that the front bumper of my Buick was 2 inches into the space in front of me. I'm thinking that the car in front of me this morning must not have been all the way pulled in so when I parked I just thought I was right on the money. But seriously....2 inches, I measured. I am appealing the ticket, but I am really upset about it so I wanted you guys to take a look at my note before I submit it... I don't want to come off as being an ass....

" I was parked in lot P4 around the middle of the lot. The ticket claims I was improperly parked with the reasoning of "Two Spaces" after noticing this on my window I walked around and around my car trying to figure out just how I had managed this. The only possibility I came up with was that the 2 inches my front bumper was over the white line in front of me must have counted as taking up two spots. I am honestly confused as to how this can be counted at taking up two spaces, as there was clearly enough space for even a large car to park in the space in front of me. When I parked this morning there was another car in the space directly in front of me so I simply pulled in as normal, I guess they were not parked as close to their side of the line as I thought, thus throwing off my idea of where to park. But I did so happen to have a tape measure and I assure you it was only 2 inches over the white line, which is why I am having such a hard time understanding why it would be considered taking up 2 spaces."

I'd hate to say it but two inches over the line is still over the line and could be considered parking in two spots. Stating this in your response is also admitting guilt.

Yes, I think the issuing officer might have been a bit oppressive but for all you know they might have had some whining baby complaining that they couldn't fit their oversized Hummer: Earth Destroyer edition in the spot in front of you.

If the fine isn't that much I'd say pay it. I thin in most states non-moving violations don't go against your insurance or points on your license.

Yeah I guess... the thing that makes me the most upset is this was 20 min after I went to class... and as I was getting out of the car the officer that gave me the ticket was walking around the parking lot.... He walked right in front of my car, didn't say anything to me. I said Good morning to him he nodded and smiled and kept walking, checking everyone's parking permits.... If I was parked incorrectly you'd think he could have just told me... I would have fixed it right away. It means that AFTER I walked to class he came BACK to my car and gave me a ticket.... Just upsetting.

I'd dispute it and say you looked and cannot see where you supposedly were in a 2nd parking space and he did not note it on the ticket, how is he going to prove it?

But, then I got a parking ticket yesterday too. 'Cept, I had a parking permit..... I just failed to make sure it was hanging up on the rearview mirror. I'm willing to pay the idiot fee for not displaying permit, but not the nonpay parking fee. So that's going to be joy and fun. Best of luck, Red.

I am honestly considering it.... but I am going to sleep on it and think about it tomorrow when I am feeling less like "WHAT THE HELL A$$!"

Good luck with your ticket >.<

I got a very similar ticket at a local transit Park & Ride garage. Mine was for "parking over the line". When I looked at my truck, I had 2 tires touching the line. These lines are also the double-lines, so the actual 'divider' between the 2 spaces is actually about a foot thick. I sent a note of explanation, along with a picture of my park job, and other vehicles' parking jobs, where they are literally straddling the line, but did not receive tickets.

They cashed my $24 check that I sent in for the fine.

I have not parked there since, and I will not again.

Where I work, we take pictures of all the parking jobs that we ticket. Was it your wheels that were two inches over or your bumper? I'm guessing you meant your bumper, which I could see as being excessive. Dunno if you' have already turned it in or not, but I'd avoid mentioning the other car in your appeal. We get a lot of appeals from people saying that they had to park over the line (we're talking the inside of their tires have cleared the line so they are into the next space by at least their tires) because the person next to them parked like that. Considering even on our busiest days, we always have parking spots open, no one is forcing the person to park illegally in that one spot. I'm not explaining this in reference to anything you did wrong, I just mean that because of this, mentioning what another car was doing tends to have the effect of irritating the person reading the appeal more than getting them to listen. Don't know if that helps any. It does suck that the guy didn't point it out when you were there.
