Dunno which forum to put this in, (It's not even work-related; it just happened at work,) so please feel free to move it wherever it belongs.
Thanks! ^^,
So it's Tuesday. Coworker parks her car way out in the parking lot so as to avoid getting hit by cars in the areas of the lot in front of the store. She has easy visual access to it from the front register area.
She's summoned outside to do some wagon-roundups. She's nearing the back of the lot with some wagons in tow, when she sees a guy with a screwdriver poking at the side of the lock on the driver's side of her own car. Time for some quick thinking, I guess.
Coworker, Thief.
Her: Excuse me, are you having trouble opening your car? Can I help at all?
Him: Oh, it's nothing, I'm just fine, thanks.
Her: Oh it's no worry.
This sort of thing happens all the time. If you'd like, I can go call a locksmith to open one up. The guy across the street is a bit useless.
Him: Really? You can do that? That'd be great! Thanks!
Her: Oh it's my pleasure! It really does happen a lot. It's very common, really. All I need is your drivers license so the locksmith knows you're overage. But it's no problem, since you don't look under 25. I just need the license, and I'll get the locksmith over in a jiffy to open the door! Are you having any other car troubles in the meantime?
Him: Nope, it's just fine. I just need to get inside, since I locked my keys inside the car. Here's my ID. *He hands her his License*
Her: Okay, *looks at license* Mr. Johnson, I'll go inside and call. Wait right here and he'll be back in a jiffy.
Him: That would be very nice of you. I'll be here waiting.
Her: Okay. Be back soon.
So she goes inside and calls the police, and tells them the name and details of the person. (The license looked like him alright.) The police arrive within 10 minutes and call the Coworker outside to verify that it's her car. The guy robbing her starts to complain, and the police just laugh, and arrest him.
Awesome. I can't believe he was dumb enough to give her his License. I guess she fooled him because he was probably expecting that he'd need to give her more, like the verification that it's his car.
