  • I think I found a worse director than Uwe Boll (Avatar, Last Airbender no spoilers)

And that is M. Night Shyamalan. My god, I would rather hit myself in the nads with a hammer than watch his films. He's that bad.

A couple of hours ago I went to see Last Airbender with my cousin. It was a good cartoon when I caught it. Didn't realize that it was directed by Shyamalan. It was awful. The acting was atrocious, the plot was a mess, and not to mention he ruined a good cartoon.

I wouldn't let Shyamalan direct a home movie, he's just awful. If that movie was any longer I would've walked out and hung out at the arcade.

Don't worry about Uwe Boll. He won't be ruining any more movies since they repeled that tax law in German.

It was a stupid law where any films made there, only had to pay taxes if it made a PROFIT. Naturally, Uwe made bad movies to not pay taxes on movies he would had if he made them good.

Shyamalan wrote the screenplay and was in charge of casting.
I was excited about the movie when they made the announcement. Then I heard who the director was going to be and I said it was going to be crap. The cast choice (getting people that haven't done any kind of acting before), interviews by Shyamalan, and clips from the movie futher proved my stance. Momo and Appa look horrible and are nightmare inducing.

They left out so much. The humor that made the cartoon so great is gone. The mystery of Ozai's face is gone. They leave out 99% of the minor characters. You name them they are gone. Even the Kyoshi Warriors and Suki. The subplots needed to advance the next two installments are no longer there.

Don't go see it if you are a fan of the animated series. If you absolutely have to see it, wait for redbox or Netflix's instant play (since it is crappy enough that they will put it there the week it comes out).

I didn't even know it was directed by him until I saw the credits. Usually when I find out a movie is being made by him I make it a rule to not see it because I know it'll be crap.

How he keeps getting work is astounding.

I saw a review of it on Rotten Tomatoes that said essentially that - I'm not sure how exact this is, but it read essentially 'Not only could Uwe Boll make a better movie than this, he has.'

I have to disagree with you there. I once accidentally saw a few minutes of a Uwe Boll film on tv. I lost IQ points. Shyamalan has never made me loose IQ points. Of course, I haven't seen a Shyamalan movie since Unbreakable. It's entirely possible he's gotten worse.

=( I'm disappointed that it's terrible. But I'm glad I was warned so I won't waste money to see something that's gonna be shit.

There's 1 film that suprisingly Bolle did well with and that's postal. Unlike other game to film movies he's done it stuck pretty close to its source material.

Plus it has a scene all us CSer's can enjoy

I've loved every Shyamalan film I've ever seen (especially his first one... the one about the kid who was looking for God?), but I don't think I'll be seeing this one.

Fans of a franchise don't want a director to infuse the film with his particular vision. They want what they know. In this case, a big-name director was NOT the best way to go and they should have gotten someone who would do as he was told rather than be artistic.

I really loved The Sixth Sense, Unbreakable, and Signs. "I cursed" "...I heard" Yeah, I don't know what happened to Shyamalan after that. :/ My bf is planning on going to see it with his roomies this weekend; I don't know if I should warn him or not.

I really liked The Sixth Sense as well. Signs was just Eh for me.

D want's to see Last Airbender because she liked the cartoon, but I've never seen it so maybe I won't mind the problems as much

I'm campaigning to see Toy Story 3 this week personally, and we're both waiting for Despicable Me

I saw Signs- thought it was decent - but that may have had more to do with the cast....

Knew the "twist" at the end of Sixth Sense without ever seeing it - still haven't seen it or any of his other works. And I know squat about Last Airbender - but it looks neat, so i'll probably see it when it comes out on disk, when my awesome aunt brings it over.

So I see this empty candy container (Push Pop, I think?) advertising a Last Airbender film, thinking, "ah, they finally made that."

Then I did a double-take when I noticed his name above the title. I think to myself, "...WTF, mate?"
