Honestly they should have just made an animated movie for tv where Zuko found his mother and Aang and the others clean up the mess from the Fire Nation.

I think I found a worse director than Uwe Boll (Avatar, Last Airbender no spoilers)

That's because the source material is basically a case of WTF on it's own. The only way he could deviate from it was to have it make sense. Now do you seriously think Boll, who has delusions of grandeur so huge it puts Steve Jobs to shame, would aim at making sense of something?Quoth RayvenQ View PostThere's 1 film that suprisingly Bolle did well with and that's postal. Unlike other game to film movies he's done it stuck pretty close to its source material.
I still say This is the appropiate response to meeting Uwe Boll.

Considering the origonal Postal and Postal 2 games were craptacular, then sticking to the source material would make for a crap movie. He never should have gotten credit for the Six Sense. It was a rip off of a episode of Are you afraid of the dark episode.Military Spouse Support.

I was looking forward to it - and then the ratings came in...
You would think Nick would have seen what was going on, and at least had it rewritten and redone a little. I won't be seeing it - I don't want to ruin what I remember from a great animated series.
Such a good story, though - what I really hope for is that the other 2 films will be cancelled, wait for awhile, and then redo it with a better script and director.
By the way, for those unfortunate to view it, I've heard that some of the names were mispronounced - is that true?

Hmm, I guess I will have to get this off Netflix then when it's released. I'm not a big movie fan, and I'm willing to give this one a shot. My opinions on the few movies I do see tend to be different from the general public opinion, so I may not find this that bad. I'm curious enough to want to see it despite everything.
Yeah, I know. IMO, the ending, though epic, was too rushed. They had a storyboard for Zuko and his mom reuniting, but scraped it late in the game. IMO, that wasn't a great idea. They put too many teasing moments in season 3 about her to just ignore it in the end. If they just kept it more hush and mysterious backstory kind of thing, it might have worked better. They made up for it a little when Zuko confronts Ozai at the very end, but not enough.Quoth AriGriffin View PostHonestly they should have just made an animated movie for tv where Zuko found his mother and Aang and the others clean up the mess from the Fire Nation.
....say WHAT?Quoth AriGriffin View PostShyamalan changed the names to the 'correct' way to pronounce them. I for one think that established names should not be changed.

So, name pronunciation aside (yes, they were flocked up..thats the first thing my husband said lol.) I actually enjoyed the movie as did hubby. And we are both fans of the original cartoon and have a mutual hate for Shaymalanadingdong.
Its a movie... it doesnt have the time the series had to explain stuff, doesnt have the time to have several subplots or minor characters. I think they did a good job and I would see it again.
There are lots of great movies that have removed characters or changed things for a better streamlined movie (LOTR was one). Its hard but I always try to seperate the original work and the movie b/c inevitably the movie always disappoints (like the Harry Potter movies...
) b/c it leaves out things that in our mind are essential for a great movie, but in reality make for a good standalone movie.
And that is all..
.

yeah he admits the sixth sense wasn't his "idea"*-it was based off an episode of "are you afraid of the dark" called I believe "the dream kid" or something like that.Quoth Treasure View PostKnew the "twist" at the end of Sixth Sense without ever seeing it
*after he won for best "original" screenplay.....of courseHonestly.... the image of that in my head made me go "AWESOME!"..... and then I remembered I am terribly strange.-Red dazes

That's what the bf said after he saw it. At first, he texted me, "Well that sucked." But later, he said that it really wasn't that bad of a movie. He was just disappointed that it wasn't a live version of the tv show, which of course it can't be.Quoth Amina516 View PostIts a movie... it doesnt have the time the series had to explain stuff, doesnt have the time to have several subplots or minor characters. Really can't make a decent live-action version of books and TV/cartoon/comic series. There's really no time to put in everything that's been done, unless the director goes the way of Peter Jackson and releases an epic extended DVD set of the movie(s).
That, or do what the director of Deathly Hallows is doing and seperate seasons in more then three movies. Like have season one have a set number of movies, season two the same way, and season three as well. Only then could there be more time to go into detail with most of what the seasons were able to do. Course that's not always plausible. *shrugs*
I really want to see this movie, so does my mom. I actually watched the series because of all the stuff that was going on with the casting of the movie some months back. Yea, watched a three season series in a week. O.oEh, one day I'll have something useful here. Until then, have a cookie or two.

I don't accept the claim that you can't make a good live action version of a cartoon. Mostly because I don't expect any such adaptation to match the cartoon exactly.
What I do expect is for the live action show to match the tone of the cartoon, and to at least try to keep the main characters true to their prior performances.
From the many reviews I've read, Shyamalan didn't manage either of those. The tone of the movie is darker and grimmer, while Katara and Yue are both sidelined. I haven't read anyone specifically mentioning how Sokka or Aang were treated, but I'd be surprised if he got Aang's ADHD, or Sokka's sarcasm to even a close approximation of the cartoon.
Their first and biggest mistake, IMO, was trying to cram 20 half hour episodes into one 2 hour movie. The Case of the Missing Mandrake; A Jude Derry, Sorceress Sleuth Mystery Available on Amazon.
