  • This morning. Ugh.

I was up early enough to go running. However...

It happened to be nearly 80F (27ish C) and 85% humidity. Which, if I run in, will likely cause me to pass out. Didn't even try, and the room my elliptical is in doesn't have a/c. Stupid move on my part, but the summer hasn't been an issue before now, so I hadn't thought "gee, maybe I should get a new a/c for the living room and move the little one into the den."

Planning a run for tomorrow morning, should be able to do the full 5K with only one stop, if the weather breaks. There's one hill that everyone agrees is torture, even for nearly-professional runners, and in the morning it's in full sun.

I'm looking forward to the fall. I think once the heat advisories and air quality warnings cease I'll be much better at this whole exercise thing.

    • I didn't go to the gym today but it's supposed to be cooler this weekend. Got some good rain this afternoon (my room hasn't cooled down a whole lot but I'm in the living room with the sliding glass door open and the fan on and it's nice). Maybe tomorrow I'll go to the park.

        • Thirty minutes, 486 calories. Had caused some problems in my right thigh muscles after Thursday's stint on the bike so gave it a couple days before going on it again.

          • Thirty minutes, 466 calories. Was going to go longer, but had to deal with that insurance stuff today, waiting for calls etc.

By the way, once your muscles get used to being on the bike, within ten minutes of biking it becomes decidedly awkward to fart.

              • Went to the park...first time in a couple weeks that it wasn't too hot and humid. 42 minutes to do the path around the park, which includes some hilliness.

Yeah, it was in the mid-80s, but the humidity was only around 49%, instead of the 75%+ it's been lately. There's enough shade on the park path that I figured it would be OK.

                    • I have discovered the joys of interval training. Tried it last night, and it actually went rather well.
5 mins warm up, then 30 seconds of sprinting, 1 minute of walking, 30 seconds of sprinting etc. Lather, rinse repeat. I'm hoping to get it to a 1:1 ratio by the end of next week

                      • Have been going to the gym lately...did 2 miles on the treadmill and 2.25 miles on the bike.

Down to 247 from 256...hope to reach 210 by January 1

Keep up the good work everyone!

                        • Rads, interval training rocks. Once you get down to a 1:1 ratio, switch it up with some hill sprints. You'll be amazed at the difference in effort necessary to just *get* to the top of the hill.

Headed out for another 3.35mile loop. I'm a bit tired, so I may not run as much as I want, but I'm determined to be able to run the whole thing without stopping by Columbus Day (early October). I'm hoping to double that by Thanksgiving (late November) and be ready to enter races by Christmas.

I'm also seeing a lot of improvement around my belly and hips. It's not perfect, but I'm not feeling like the bloated shit I was two weeks ago.

Cat, I wanted to congratulate you on the goal acheived. That ROCKS. I bet you feel fantastic.

                            • Just got on the scales for the first time in a while this morning. 17st 2lb - lowest I've been for a long time (though if I could stop eating so much it would be lower). 240lb in translation.

Twelve-hour shift yesterday probably helped, but it stopped me getting on the bike etc. Later this morning for more burn news etc.
