    • I saw an amendment to a poster that had been put up on our street regarding a found kitty.

Added to the bottom of the poster was this hand written note.

"Now with the owner - all three of us are happy together".

      Sweet!
No... Just No! And I mean it this time!

          • Yeah, Arwen has had the habit most kittens have of taking a flying leap off the chair or desk or whatever to cling to your clothes. Only, she did it on MORE than one occasion while I was in the process of changing clothes. Kitty claws dug into nekkid butt is how she earned her nickname. Screamed it so loud she cowered under the bed and hubby ran in from across the house to check on me.

                          • And here I was gonna recommend a classic: Felix.

But yeah, on the topic of pets and their alternate names: We have a cat named Chester. Before he died, my stepdad spoiled that cat rotten. Think 5 year old girl style spoiling. Now that my stepdad has passed on, the cat has to do things for himself now, and is unable to do them properly (aka, like a cat could). He has tried and failed to jump from the floor to the top of a bed. As such, I have nicknamed him Poser Cat. He is not a real cat anymore, just something posing as one for food.
Something kind of sad about the way that things have come to be.
Desensitized to everything, what became of subtlety?

He's not feral. He isn't old enough to develop the habits of a feral cat. Hes just an asshole like all kittens are.
Kittens get feral habits from mom within a couple of weeks of birth. We've collected several feral litters from my workplace in the last year, and the last couple of kittens are so markedly different from the others, that we're certain someone dumped a pet when it got pregnant.

Whenever I pick him up, he clutches me like he's worried about being dropped, and doesn't even let go when he can feel that he's back on solid ground.
That's a normal kitten thing. They settle down once their eyes and ears get more developed.

along with a litter box (which I now suspect is useless for the time being)
You've probably already learned that kittens can be box trained by 4 weeks, so at 6 (as this guy seems) he should take to it without much trouble. Our latest were just shy of 4 weeks when we picked them up last week. By the end of the second day, they were seeking out the box to use on their own.

I've found that my cats like the cardboard scratch pads best... like this one: http://www.catclaws.com/products/cat...tching-pad.php
Sisal rope, for the win. Our middle guy actually partially dismantled the rope wound around the small cat perch. But we've got a cat tree with two sisal rope sections, so he's really happy with it.

He has fleas (so we're de-flea'ing the whole zoo this weekend, he gets dawn dish detergent, the dogs get actual anti-flea/tick stuff named 'Vectra').
Look in the gardening section for Sevin Dust. Best anti-insect stuff ever. And least toxic to things that aren't insects, too.

Oh, forget that. If there's a cat tree happening, I'm building it. They're not complex, and I need projects like that.
I got mine at Costco for $70. It's a good deal, has two high curved shelves and a low flat shelf for perching, plus the two sections of sisal rope. I'm not sure it's that much more expensive than the components, but I'm not crafty, so having it already built is worth the cost.

Ah, yes... nearly all cats are from the extended clan of Underfoot.

                                ... dogs, too.
