  • i think i pulled something...

has anyone here pulled or strained a muscle in their lower backs?

my lower back has been hurting for over 2 weeks. it feels like a pulled muscle, and usually hurts if i bend my back. i thought about when it started and i do remember straining my back while at work.

so how long is it supposed to hurt? lol

how long any pulled muscle stays hurting depends on how badly you pulled it, and if you're still borking it. With the back, it's difficult to "stay off it"-- because you really can't. Just keep being gentle with it, heat/ice/ stretch gently, etc., don't sleep in awkward positions... relax... just take it easy. Take pain meds too.
( Doesn't naproxen relax muscles? *wanders off to check...*)

yes naproxen does but, i dont wanna take it everyday, becuase i read i shouldnt being on the medication im on (citalopram)

i know i shouldnt do heavy moving or lifting at work, and i still do :/ it would help if we had a guy to work nights with me, its always me and other women, who are actually smaller than me :/

also...ive thoght about buying heat wraps...but i think maybe i'll use the heat blanket when i get home at night each night, that should help right?

Ibuprofen is also good on muscle strain.

If you like "naturals" you can try Valerian root. It can make you drowsy. It is good for help to relax to go to sleep.

I TORE a muscle in my BUTT once. Hurt like hell for about 3 weeks. Was out of work, on super pain pills. That area is still prone to getting knots the size of walnuts.

I've done that. They told me a couple of weeks to heal is typical, assuming you don't keep straining it, which is hard when you have to work.

If you can, you might want to check it out with your doctor to make sure it's just a strained muscle. There are other things that can make your back hurt, like kidney things and UTI's. Not trying to scare you, just an FYI.

            Hope you feel better soon!

nothing else hurts, just that are of my back, so i think everythings contained in that area. no pain with peeing or whatnot

If it's just a muscle, I highly recommend Icy Hot. It works.

Tore a muscle in my left thigh....took several months to heal. ( I still hiked on it )

Pulled right thigh about 3 months ago....hurts if I work out to much.

Bascially....take it easy and rest if you can! Get well!

Sometimes useing a wall and a tennis ball can "massage" enough to help- and if the pain is in your low back, there's about an 80% chance that the muscle that needs help is in your butt. I'd offer to give you a massage, but I don't live ANYWHERE near you. But I can almost guarantee it would help. My FIL dislocated his hip in an accident, and the first time he didn't need a cane was because of me, as was his first vicodin-free night of real sleep. *brag*

You may also want to see if physical therapy is covered under your insurance (or if you can find a low-cost clinic). I did something really screwy to my back when I was still dancing. It hurt like none other. Turns out that the muscles on the opposite side were compensating for the injured muscle, which wore them out and made them hurt. PT exercises helped strengthen the original injury so the other ones didn't have to pick up the slack.

Also see if you can get ahold of some electrodes. Massages are wonderful, but the electrodes bypass the brain's pain reaction mechanism. That way the brain can't lock up the muscles and they relax. Electrodes + heating pad = heaven.

I think I need to see a doctor... one of my ankles popped a few weeks ago, and it hurt so bad I could hardly stand on it for even brief periods, but, two days off work later, I felt fine, and could rest on it comfortably... however, ever since, if I accidentally pop it again, all the pain comes right back. I also have a horrible time with pulling random muscles in my legs, mostly in the middle of the night so bad that it wakes me up... and, of course, the arch of my right foot always hurts.
