  • Look what I got in the mail today, a litle piece of history..*pic heavy*

Written by his owner, Laurence Trimble - published in 1926.

While Jean (a.k.a. the Vitagraph Dog) was the first canine star, Strongheart was the first canine movie hero.

Marvelous! I'm a huge movie fan (the older, the better), but I have yet to see any of Strongheart's films.

I'm on a big search for films with Strongheart as well as Jean (the Vitagraph Dog) - I think most of them were "lost in time". Back then it was normal for a motion picture company to destroy films when their run was completed.

I've also secured two more copies and a third will be mine in a few hours. They'll make very nice presents to some people I know.

I found this : Return of Boston Blackie http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0018319/
It is said to be the only one left.

Awesome, someone has it on Amazon, too. They say it's a DVD - I guess they remastered the reels onto a DVD.

Mods - please add "pic heavy" in the title? Here are some pics form the movie!

(Please take note: as far as I know these pictures have never been available outside of the film itself. All the pictures (well, what few of them there are left) are stock and posed photos).

We meet Strongheart right at the beginning when Boston Blackie is released from jail:

He becomes a little jealous when Boston Blackie makes a lady friend!

Oh no! It's the bad guy! GO get him Strongheart!

Hold him at bay until the police arrive!

                  Good boy!!

And in the end everyone is happy and the hero gets his close up!

                      .. and cinematography.

The fight scene is actually pretty good for the time and how early schutzhund was then. Maybe I'll cut it out of the movie and post it on YouTube (don't worry mods, the movie is long out of copyright).

                      Edit: here's the scene:

That's really neat. I enjoy film history, and appreciate many of the old silents. I'll have to see if I can find a copy of this one (my local library has a surprisingly good selection of silent and classic movies).
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
