Kindle has one too, and you can see those notes without opening the book if you want.
Quoth AdminAssistant View PostI'm waiting until more academic stuff becomes available in e-book format. There's definitely a trend towards that though, so maybe in a few years.... Do e-readers have a note or highlight function? Because that's a necessity. I mark my books up a lot.
I have found ALL kinds of text books on kindle, some are free! If I were into math, I could have tons of math text books.Last edited by Dave1982; 12-07-2010, 11:03 AM.

Unfortunately, the books I need aren't typical textbooks. They're academic monographs, pretty specialized and usually very expensive ($80 for a hardback, thanks, Palgrave!)Quoth Trishlovesdolphins View PostI have found ALL kinds of text books on kindle, some are free! Sorry if that comes off as snooty.
If they start putting out those books in e-format, it would be a godsend. I love having physical books, but there's the very real logistical problem of storing and moving them. I already have 5 bookcases and I've barely started working on my comprehensive exam reading list and haven't even *touched* dissertation research.

Not snooty. Textbooks are crazy. I wish I had been able to kindle some of them when I was in college! At the very least if I had one I could have downloaded all the novels I had to read for English Lit, though you can't really re-sell Kindle books, so you better hope you like them!
