We had our major snowstorm last weekend, and even as of now, they still haven' properly cleared up all streets and intersections. In most residential areas, you have to pull out halfway into the intersection to see if you can go. Others are still so slick because they waited so long to plow that my "Low Traction" warning comes on as I slide on through.

And how should we even expect them to clean up 7 more inches in time for another several on Thursday/Friday?

Today coming home from the bar in my shorts and football jersey was actually almost chilly enough to warrant a sweatshirt.

      Almost.

Well, a fun snowstorm is hitting today, and unlike the last ones, central Minnesota is getting hit pretty hard. I'm at work and it's snowing very hard right now. At least I'm done at 8:30 tonight, and can go to the bar for the game, and beer.

Due to the pretty damn cold temperatures, my brother managed to write off his car in the side of another one last night. His head cracked his windscreen, but since he doesn't think much the ambulance crew think he was fine.

My father took him to work this morning. He was complaining about the route, saying the back roads take a few minutes off the journey. You know, the back roads that aren't as well treated and resulted in this crash in the first place?

As I said, he doesn't think much.

Bugger's lost his car (suspect he's on third party only), and I know he's got no coin.

Looked at the car thermometer on the way home. -7C. Even I'd been feeling it. Fark.

Doing the same again tomorrow night.

              Ow.

We wound up only getting about 3 inches of snow.....then it quit snowing, the storm shifted, and we got a bunch of sleet and ice.

                Frack. We can never win.

Oh, and more snow on deck for tomorrow and Friday.

It's -18°C outside, and there's a real possibility that the standing 1915 record for local snowfall will be beaten this month.

The trains have actually been suffering a bit, but they were still keeping them going through most of the country yesterday. They ran out of drivers though, so a commuter train I got on was delayed until the next slot, about 15 minutes later.

They modified the timetable for one of the lines as well, possibly for the same reason - instead of a short stopping train and a semi-fast, the semi-fast stopped everywhere and the stopping trains were cancelled.

The shortage of drivers is probably accounted for by the extra trains being run to take people out of the capital for their Christmas holidays. A lot of Finns live in the capital area but keep family ties in the country.

Looking at the thermometer on the table, it's about 32 F (0 C for the rest of you ) outside. We've had several days of light snow, including today...so we're having a white Christmas Even so, the roads are clear, and since most holiday events are at my mothers (2 blocks up the street), I'm not driving. Instead, I'll put the gifts in my '59 Radio-Flyer, and use that instead

It's been quite mild here as well. It hasn't been below zero in over a week. Simply amazing. Usually when it gets this warm, it's only to snow a bunch, then freeze back up.

But ick, got another couple inches last night. It just never stops.

Snow/rain going through Kansas/Missouri/Arkansas right now. Fiance still has to drive home. I want to punch everyone wishing for a 'white Christmas'. I'm wishing for my Fiance to get home safe.

If it makes you feel better, Admin, I always want to punch people who kick and scream for a white Christmas. I'd give anything to have a sandy, dry Christmas in Arizona.

Edit to add: Looks like in the past few years, Mother Nature has just wanted people to suffer during the holidays. Last Christmas, we were supposed to get a foot of snow, ended up with a few inches of snow on Christmas Eve and then an ice storm, there was an ice/slush/snow storm the day before Thanksgiving, and just yesterday into today, we got another couple of inches, but to the west and south of me, they are under a winter weather advisory until tonight.

So we have a blizzard warning; weather.com says it's light snow right now but my drapes are closed and I don't want to get up so I can't see what it's actually doing (though it's starting to sound like the road is getting wet judging from the sound of the cars on the highway outside my building...I can tell when it's been raining just from the sound of the tires on the pavement).

My boss is in Wisconsin for Christmas, not back until Wednesday, so I need to do his Monday stuff in addition to my own Monday stuff tomorrow. So if I can't get to work that's a problem, unless they actually close the place, which pretty much requires the governor to declare a state of emergency before they'll do that. Unless the state tells us to stay off the roads, they don't close. So fingers crossed that it's either not as bad as they're predicting, or bad enough to close us down. (Personally I'll take the latter just for an extra day off, even if it means having to dig out my car.)

On the other hand, a lot of the people who get those reports are out for the holidays, and if anyone complains that they're late I'll tell them to go fuck themselves look out the window.

And apparently my roommate turned the heater down to 3 so it was 64 degrees when I got up at 10:30. Which is why I don't want to get up from my warm blanket on the couch. I need to take a shower but.... I cranked it back up to 8 and it better get warmer soon. I still think there's something wrong with our heat, anyway.

The Vikings/Philly game has been delayed till Tuesday because of that crap. I was going to the bar tonight after work and watch it. Now I'm just going to go home and watch "It's a Trap" and, maybe, start Final Fantasy XIII.
