  • Tron Legacy

Just got back from the midnight premier of Tron Legacy, which we saw at the El Capitan in Hollywood.

It's a must see for any fan of the original, and an all-around good movie otherwise.

There are a ton of nods to the original, from revisited lines and visual bits, to variations on some of the original music.

The 3D is well done without all that annoying "poking stuff out of the screen just because we can" stuff, and I think it adds a ton of atmosphere to the grid.

The previews included the one for the new Pirates movie. It has way too much of that stabbing out of the screen going on. >_<

I HAVE BEEN waiting for 6 months for Tron:Legacy to come out (almost as much anticipation as Harry Potter Deathly Hallows P1)

I am going Sunday and seeing it in 3D (a must since I saw the 3D previews a couple of months back and ALL of the trailers posted on YouTube have been AWESOME)

GOODY no poking out of the screen things.

I'm still iffy on it. The original TRON was known for it's technical merits over it's story (which was odd at the best of times. So every neon glow that was in the original was there for a purpose, to identify program designations (characters) or to serve as a wireframe model for the scenery. This was extended in the TRON 2.0 game with more detail put in. This movie on the other had seems to have the (over bloomed) neon there just because it looks cool as opposed to any identifiable purpose.

A minor beef? Maybe. But like I said, what made tron popular was it's approach to computer editing breakthroughs as much if not more so than anything else, and this new one so far I have not seen anything that brings it up to that level.

I might have to make the 25 miles drive to see it,I really liked the original.

The scenes with young Flynn and current CLU are really odd to watch, since you know Bridges doesn't look anything like that any more.

Did you know that Bit from the original is the first entirely digital 'character' in a film?

              TRON: Legacy? HAWTNESS.
Aaahhh sooo coooool! I loved it! (I've read the book (and still have it, despite being born after the movie) back before 2000, before anyone knew anything about a new movie... )
Also, anyone notice the two Bits on the mantle at cyber-Flynn's? :3
              Also, recognizers? still freaky. .___.
I still think it needs more Tron. Not enough Tron.
              Eh, have some (minor) spoilers.

Saw it on Friday. Effects were well done, if sometimes a bit over the top. I found it bit hard to keep some of the bad guys straight.... my kids claim they had no trouble with that....

Plot was a wee bit too thin and formulaistic... although it being an extension of an 80's movie that's almost a requirement!

And yup, the 3D in Pirates trailer was terrible.... too much sticking-out-at-you stuff and most of the 3D make everything look like layers of cardboard cut-outs. The Tron 3D on the other hand was well done to the point of being virtually unnoticable -- it was there, but didn't call attention to itself.

I saw it this afternoon. 3D ROCKS. yeah a little thin on the story side and I wanted more TRON (the character at least until I figured out who he was. it was not that obvious at first)

Loved the Recognizers and the light cycles. overall the GRID rocked

did I detect a little Microsoft bashing in the beginning????

I wonder if there will be a sequel as certain things got left hanging/not answered near the end. do not want to give too much away.

There was one scene in particular that made me think they have more script in mind.

It would rock if they did.

I have to say, I did laugh out loud at the Wargames reference.

Huh? Missed that one. Then again, haven't seen the original Tron or Wargames in YEARS.

When Flynn-the-younger meets up with dear old dad and they're deciding what to do about everything, Dad-Flynn says, "The only way to win the game is not to play." Basically what the computer says at the end of Wargames.

I was sort-of meh at the end of it. Saw it last night. Spent my year's bonus on pick-n-mix. Visually awesome. Plot was reasonably tight, but I wasn't blown away. Let it down, really.

I think partly my problem is that I've not seen the original for two decades, and thus I'm somewhat remembering it through rose-tinted glasses. I know it was very limited, and not just in the graphical sense, but I was expecting more from the new version. I think I need to pick up the DVD of the original to compare it properly.

Oh, my gods. My brother and I saw Tron Christmas Eve, cause we were both in the same place at the same time and had nothing else to do...
We saw it in 2D, partially by accident, and partially because we really don't care for the 3D in most movies.
All in all, though, we did really LOVE the movie. Not really sure what my brother knew about it from the original, much less if he's even seen the original, but we did both catch the Black Hole poster, and he commented on the ride home: "Well, can't wait to hear about that being remade </sarcasm>..."
Went on IMDB, it is... well, poo... but by the same director... so... no clue how well that's going to be received... but, yes, the movie was awesome.
