My classes don't start up until Jan.24th. The dorms open up on the 22nd, so that is the day I will go back, settle in, get books, etc.

This break is dragging on. I have been on this since the week of Christmas.

I have not attended class yet, the official start was Wed after 4pm, I have class on Tuesday from 4-7 and Wed from 1-4. I recieved a call from BHSU on Monday informing me that my Business Law class, that was scheduled to start on Thursday, was cancelled due to lack of students so I had to rush to register for a different class. I had a hard time deciding what I wanted to take and that would fit well with my work schedule. So I decided to take Restuarant Management, it is one of the electives for my Business Management degree, I figured that it may be an easy "A" because I have been in management in the restuarant industry for many years. My other class is Business Ethics. I just recieved the book for that class today and it looks interesting, I am going to read the first couple of chapters before class on Tuesday to get a head start. I am looking forward to attending classes this semester, although I always look forward to class until I start to freak out over assignments..

I start class in April, but I wish my college would just blow the hell up. I fucking hate being in grad school - only because I do not want to be $50K further in debt when I already owe $74K and I can't even pay that.

But nope, I was forced into grad school and am forced to remain there "for my own good so I can get a job that pays a hundred grand." That's a load of shit, but fighting it just results in a far more horrible panic attack for me and subsequent guilt tripping from the forcing party. So it's just easier to let everyone else have their way, it seems.

Le sigh. I still need to do the homework I was assigned that's due in April too.

Classes are great actually. I like all of my teachers and so far I seem to be doing alright with keeping up with my readings (English Ed major). I do have a couple of classes that don't start til mid-semester so hopefully those will do alright too.

So far all my classes are a breeze, but I did drop English. Just not enough time in the day. *sighs*

Clinicals this semester seem to suck for almost everyone. I live in a city that sprawls like crazy, and people are driving over an hour to get to their sites. I expected it for the specialized course, but for the general hospital people course? You're sending half the class 40 miles from the school? I'm lucky that I'm only traveling one day, though it means I have a Saturday clinical.

The good news is that next semester, sites for both our clinicals are far more likely to be concentrated near school again, based on both the subject matter and the fact that we are the only school that goes through the summer. I just have to hang on until then.

Yeah, I had to drive 40 miles for clinic when I was in my ADN program. It sucked, but that's where the program had a contracted clinic site.

My area has to share hospital space with two BSN programs, and 4 or 5 other communities colleges AND ECPI and a new program ITT is starting in my area. So clinic space is tight.

We get assigned different cities/towns for our clinicals. I'll have a 2-week phlebotomy clinical in June, and then a full YEAR clinical Sept - June of 2012/13. I'm praying I get assigned to a hospital in my hometown (I'm attending college out of town) because I don't have a vehicle to get around, and many town's have a joke for a public transport system. Also, I don't relish the thought of having to find an apartment or room somewhere in another strange place.

Classes so far seem to be good. I wound up dropping my Human Communications class because I had a minor *read major* panic attack before it, so I decided to put it off a bit so I can practice speaking. I have two Networking classes with a newbie professor who is soooooo excited to teach he makes it fun just because he's so enthusastic. Tech Writing is gonna be okay... I know the professor so I'm not too concerned, and Math... well it's Math. I'm remembering some of the stuff so I'm not horribly concerned, you need a 70% in the class to pass AND a 73% on the final to advance into the next part, but I think I'll be okay.

I expected that we would be spread out all over the city for our psych clinicals this semester, since there aren't that many psych hospitals. While my school is sharing space with 4 other BSN programs and 3 (ish) ADN programs (and 2 med schools, a pharmacy school, etc), we are in the middle of the largest hospital center in the world, so I kind of thought there would be enough space for us in town.

Everyone wants their clinic to be in the daytime, so getting the unit you want can be a chore because usually more than one school wants that unit. It's especially bad for the specialty units like OB. You can't have more than one group on a unit at a time.

Fortunately for me, I prefer to run my clinics in the evening because the students get better learning experiences, so I usually get what I want.

I'm taking a break from checking students' prerequisites for my classes starting tomorrow. I just wish the advisors at my school had a better grasp of what the placement test scores mean--or had a better ability to read the same chart I was given. I also wish that I were allowed to actually enforce prerequisites! Instead, they seem to be merely "suggestions."
Everything will be ok in the end. If it's not ok, it's not the end.
