  • They actually banned bandannas from my gym, though they don't enforce it. Fine by me, I have a new Revs hat I need to break in before Saturday. (though bandannas on guys is pretty hot)

Thanks for the words to all, Jester I will post pics of me on top of Mt Washington (weather permitting...have to remind myself nature may not let us hike) Maybe I'll try the elliptical today....I only have 30 mins to work out

    • Ugh bronchitis.....no fun at all. Heal fast!

Had dinner w/ the rents, so no healthy eating....but did 30 mins at the gym....15%, no weight in pack, 3.5-40mph. Worked from home, so did weights when I wasn't working much

      Feel GREAT!

It's official - I've got bronchitis, and request form for a chest x-ray. My doctor has side-lined me for the next couple of weeks so that I can kick the bronchitis. But that doesn't mean I will spend all my time planted on the couch. I still plan on going for walks, just not overly strenuous ones, and always with an inhaler in my pocket.

Once I'm over this then it's back into getting into shape for me
Give yourself time to get better. You will make yourself worse if you push too hard when you are sick.

Try short walks when you feel up to it. Do simple stretching exercises spaced out over the day to keep yourself in the right frame of mind.

        • Tonight I was going to either jog, work on my wing sauce, or jog and then work on my wing sauce, although recent days have told me it was going to be one or the other.

Two things changed that. One was a coworker wanted an extra shift and I really wanted one off, so I now have Friday off to tinker in the kitchen. So no wing sauce tinkering tonight.

So I jogged, right? Wrong. I went to the bar for some drinks. But this was no a typical Excuse. This was a Valid Reason. One of those things that life throws at you that validly throws you off your workout schedule.

In this case, it was the death of a friend (as detailed in another thread). I can take a day off to go remember a friend and be there with other friends who miss him. The gym's not going anywhere. He did. 'Nuff said.

I can't help but laugh, cause that's how a one of the bar tenders in the beer tents dressed last year. Are you sure you didn't come up here last year for the faire Jester? Was the lure of many women in corsets too much for you? Want to come this year? We've got two giant beer tents and you and I can cause much trouble.
I am sure that wasn't me.

That being said, when is your Faire? And where? Hell, I may shock you and take you up on your invite. I mean...why not? (If you're at all serious, PM me so we don't threadjack.)

And no, women in corsets is never a problem for me.

          • Did some Health Rider yesterday. An hour, to be exact. Watched Supernatural during said workout, and managed to get my mom intrigued about the show. XD Lost count of how many shows I've gotten my mom at least curious about seeing another episode.

Yesterday for many reasons my walking just didn't happen, looks like today it might not either. Instead I did some exercises that I learned from my college riding instructor. Which is actually for the best cause they are stretching and strengthening exercises, so doing these every couple days instead of walking won't be a bad thing. One is where you stand on a step with your feet shoulder length apart the front half of your foot on the step and you lower your heel then lift yourself back up. You start out supporting yourself but after a while you should be able to do it without doing that. I forgot what it's called, and when I had to do it I also had to do it in class we also had to do squats that way too. Which was so so very not fun, actually when you start doing them you end up swearing quite a bit, it's hard. So I did somewhere around 20 yesterday, which I was surprised since it's been so long since I've done them. Still hurt and I was grumbling the entire time, but I did them. Funny thing is a friend made fun of me for only doing 20, he tried them and did about 4 before he sat down and couldn't do them anymore. Actually another thing the instructor had us do was when we wore flip flops was to walk so that they didn't make noise, since I think it helped with posture and it meant you were walking correctly. She had some creative and HARD exercises but that woman in great shape.

              • Well, I was up late last night watching the game (they need to fire Toledo) so I forgot my knee braces. Grr....so no weights in my pack, but I'll just go about 3.5 mph to make up for that. It's all good

                • Took the Cubbies hiking yesterday. We probably did about 4 miles through the rolling hills. It was great and I'm only marginally feeling it this morning.

Bad news: Today I'm feeling a bit short of air. It's happened before and is usually allergy related. It's spring here in the Bluegrass, so the weather's doing it's normal springtime rollercoaster. Might have to hit up immediate care for an inhaler if it doesn't clear up or gets worse.

                  • Today was weigh in day.

Lost two pounds this week. Total weight loss since Jan 19: 21 lbs.

Also lost another 1/2 from the waist. Total inches lost since Jan 19: 4 1/2.

BP on Tuesday was 120/90, at the doctor's office. He put me on Atenolol, a beta blocker, along with the hydroclorothiazie (a diuretic) I am taking to try and bring my blood pressure under control. I'm hoping it will be a short term thing . . . if I can get my weight down closer to my goal that the blood pressure will fix itself. We shall see.

My goal is to lose another 15 pounds by June. At the rate I am going (about 2 lbs/week), I think this is more than doable.

Didn't work out yesterday. Usually I do TKD for the day class before clinic, but had a ton of stuff I was trying to get caught up on for work. I had planned using the elliptical as a substitute, but got a bad migraine and took a nap instead.

So I'll hit the adult TKD class later this evening, and the Saturday class (since I'm off from hospice this weekend) to get 4 days in this week instead of 3.

I ordered a stretching bar from Amazon to help me with my groin stretches. Just got here today; haven't had a chance to unpack and use it; will do so tonight to see if it will work out for me. I used to have a leg stretching machine when I did TKD about 15 years ago, and it did wonders for my side kick. I sold it when I quit martial arts and moved, and I want to see if the simple bar I bought will suffice before spending big bucks on another machine.

                    • TKD= Tae Kwon Do? I did that for a month or so in high school, and I kinda regret quitting.

2lbs week is a great rate. Question, how often do you guys/gals weighyourself?

Today at the gym: 1 hr on the tread mill, no pack. 15% incline, started at 3.7 mph, ended at 4.2. Not overly tired. For the first time this year, I think I am almost ready for Mt Washington

Affirmative: Tae Kwon Do. I got tired to spelling it out I regret quitting 15 years ago. Should have stuck with it and got my black belt. I'm having a blast with it now that I'm back in.

I weigh myself every Thursday, on a medical scale in the nursing lab that is new and still in good condition (read--balanced). I weigh myself in the morning to get consistent results. One of my colleagues checks my blood pressure with a manual cuff. I try not to weigh myself more than once a week. It's normal for your weight to fluctuate a bit from day to day. Once a week gives me a consistent and realistic idea of just how much I am really losing.

2-3 lbs a week is a safe weight loss. You should not lose more than that and expect to stay healthy or to keep it off. You may gain slightly at times as you build muscle mass . . . as long as you lose again a week or two later and gradually go down then you are doing OK.

                        Ditto for my waist measurements.

The only reason I check my blood pressure is because I've been having trouble with it for the past 6 months or so. If your blood pressure is usually fine, then you are OK doing it at the doctor's office at your regular check up.

                        • Okay, I'm going to jump in here and put in a formal request to join FTS.

Before I got my drivers license (5 years ago) I literally biked everywhere. To school, work, friends houses. I was a fucking machine. But when I got my license, and a car, I stopped riding altogether. I haven't been on a bike in about 2 years, which pisses me off cause about 6 years ago I dropped $1600 on a really nice hardtail.

I've since had office jobs, I've had periods where I lived off Mcdonalds, i spent about 8 months living of Chinese food, pizza and beer, and I'm up 4" at the waist. I used to be able to wear 32" jeans comfortably, now 36" is literally a squeeze.
I used to be able to 100+ sit-ups AND pushups in one go. Now I'm wiped after 10 pushups.
Considering what I do for work, it's surprising that I'm out of shape. But considering how I eat, it's not.

Fuck this shit! I'm getting my old fucking body back. 20 is too young for a beer belly.

Fuck this shit! I'm going to be in shape again. Once the weather warms up, I'm buying another bike and I'm going to work up to riding to work during the week.

                          • Had some really fun days this week, went to the seaside and did a whole lot a walking there and then a couple days later went to the local park. Generally ran about flying a kite, playing with a ball and skipping. I'm such a mature 33 year old.

I found out today that my boyfriend has put on weight since he is clinically underweight this is a good thing, still needs another two stone before the docs are happy but it's a start. Love is good for us.

                            • I haven't had time for riding my bike (stupid hormone glands are sucking up my study time) but I am still running regularly. I'm doing a C25K type thing and I'm in the second of 8 weeks (and I'd started C25K a few weeks before this). I'm almost starting to like running again and my times are improving. The added exercise is helping my weight go down much faster than before--I'm down 5 pounds in the past 3 weeks!
