  • In memory of Plaidman

As we know, today is Plaidman's memorial service.

I was just thinking about the fact that he and I never met in person; we never even spoke on the phone or chatted online. I was thinking about my plans for meeting him, and how I had planned to go to places where he would be able to sit if his hip bothered him.

I got to thinking about donations to NF research.

Then, I had an Archimedes-style "Eureka!" moment, except I didn't run naked down the street.

Why don't we create a series of guidebooks to the cities/areas where we live, and donate the proceeds to NF research and suicide prevention? We can each take on what we feel is the right amount of work for us. Cities/areas with multiple members can have several people working on that particular guidebook. We can include information for the disabled; best places to eat and drink; offbeat places; things most tourists never find.

After all, we should know where best to find everything, right?

Now. Who's on board? Who knows where we can find a sympathetic publisher? What does everyone think?

Wow, that is a cool idea! I haven't been on in some time due to school and my retail tobacco store.

However I would be happy to do something like this since I have some time during the day that isn't filled by anything pressing.

I'm actually thinking about making a quilt with plaid fabric and either auctioning it or holding a raffle to raise money for CTF, since that was Plaidman's favorite charity.

What about everyone from here finding a piece of plaid material, signing it, and sending it to you to put into a whole quilt?

If anyone wants to take part in the guide books but doesn't feel confident in his/her writing skills, please feel free to just send me the basics, and I'll do the writing.

That is a good idea. Maybe if everyone gets a 6 inch square of plaid cotton fabric. They do make special pens and markers for fabric that doesm't wash out.

Sounds awesome! I crochet and I was thinking that any one here that knits or crochets can add on some plaid goodies too in Plaidman's memory, especially charity fundraising.

I love the idea of the quilt. I only knew Plaidman from his posts on here, but I hope he is in a better place now.

I am so down for that.

I knew there was a reason I held on to all the flannels I wore in high school as an angsty grunge kid.

Love both ideas! I'll get some plaid fabric later this week.

Also, I demand to see photos of IPF as an angsty grunge kid.
