She's still here. I don't know if there are any vets here who make house calls. I'm giving her odds and ends of home remedies to see if they have any effect. Maybe one of them will work. She's not in any pain.

I'm so sorry to hear she's sick again. *hugs* to you and kitty.

And, hey, don't be so hard on yourself. You answered your own question, about why you're here. You adopted a cat who was so terrified of people that she couldn't even be touched. And you gave her so much love and kindness, that she became the best cat you ever had.

That's a special kind of caring. You are a special kind of person. You adopted this cat who probably didn't have much of a life.... and gave her a long, happy, and loving life. The best life anyone could have provided for her. So you can go on knowing that you did your very best for her and have no doubt that not a day went by that she didn't know you loved her.
This. This, so much! Eireann, you gave your kitty loving care. So many, many critters in this world never get that, they have no one to take care of them. You gave her love, care, a home; she'll be with you in spirit...I know that sounds like a cliche, but I truly believe that. I've had experiences that bear this out--when you care so much for someone (and yes to me my pets are "someone" not something), they bless you while they're with you in life, and they bless you again when they pass on.

It's hard, it's so very, very hard, to let them go. I know it hurts, believe me. And you will come through it and know that you did everything you could, unselfishly.

Bast bless you and your kitty.

I've been syringing broth into her mouth. Why? Because she's still fully aware of who she is and where she is. And I think it's helping. She jumped up on a chair and enjoyed the sun, earlier. I had to mix up some of her medicine in broth, along with some Vitamin C, and when I entered the room, she was nowhere to be seen.

It turns out that she was hiding behind a curtain. She knew what was going on!

Whenever I give her the food, she gives me a dirty look and washes her face. Since I don't know if she's eating on her own - though she is drinking her water; I've seen her - I need to keep her going.

One very loved cat indeed! And I am sure she knows it.

She tried to jump into the window today, and almost made it. I didn't want her to make another attempt, so when I saw her approaching the window, I hurried over to help her. She thought I was trying to give her the dreaded syringe again, so it took me a minute to catch her.

She is now in the window, looking outside. Earlier, she had a few laps of liver broth (pushing her little sister out of the way). Much as I would love to see her eating hearty, it's still a start. I'm continuing to give her Vitamin C.

Yes it's a start. GO ALPHA CAT!
Why is she prescribed vitamin c, if I can be nosy?

The Vitamin C was my idea. She's immune-compromised, and is currently experiencing congestion (which may be the reason why she hasn't been eating; I don't think her sense of smell is very accurate right now), so I broke out the C pills and I've been giving it to her twice a day.

AFAIK cats make vitamin C themselves.
What was the medicine she got?

If you can, move a piece of furniture in front of the window (like a chair?) so that it acts like stes going up to the window.

Yes, I put a chair there, and she hopped down and sunned herself there. I went out for some hours, and just came home - she met me at the door and went into the kitchen with me. She hovered over the food dish, and mouthed some of the food, but I didn't see her eat it. The other dish, the one with chicken livers in it, has shown a drastic reduction of food, though it's impossible for me to tell which of them has been eating it. I smeared some of the liver on her mouth.

Since she's immune-compromised, the Vitamin C is to give her that extra boost. I've read about people having very good results with it.

she knows that you want her to eat. Good.
                          *go kitty go*
EDIT: yeah, healthy cats make some of it themselves, in their intestines.

When one of my old kitties was very ill....we gave her baby food (she had a tumor under her tongue)

I got odd looks for buying so much baby food (I think I was 13, 14 at the time)

Can you try to see if she'll eat baby food? Good amount of calories there.

Glad to hear she is sunning herself.

Baby food can be good for sick kitties, just make sure you're only using the plain meat kind...chicken, beef or turkey (no ham--pork's not good for kitties).

You might want to ask the vet if there is a prescription food you could try that has extra protein and stuff. Cats need taurine, which they can't get from the baby food. She might not like the prescription stuff, though, or might eat it for a while and then decide she's bored with it, so don't buy a lot to start with.

We did that with Pablo (on the advice of the vet) when he was sick and not eating. I think we got him beef. It worked well cuz he could just lick it up and didn't have to chew. Only did it for a few days once or twice.
