Khan's current interests, in order of most beloved:

        trains
        dinosaurs
        trucks
        construction equipment
        cars elephants

The thing about having a son is, you learn a lot about trains...and garbage trucks...and construction equipment.

I'm 33 and still love dinos. Fun fact: Yale Peabody museum has one of the last "brontosaurus" skeletons. Brontosaurus apparently didn't exist, and is really apatosaurus...I think it's the number of vertebra. Anywho, Yale didn't fix the skeleton as am homage to the scientist who wrongly id the brontosaurus.

At least that was what the sigh said a few years ago...

Edit: sorry. The bron/apa thing was already mentioned, ha, I'll grab more coffee now

My kids haven't really gotten into the dinosaurs phase yet. Hubby likes model trains, so the kids started out liking trains. Right now my son is fascinated with oceans. We've watched the Blue Planet documentaries on Netflix so many times. He can name several species of whales, sharks and fish.

And he'll be 4 in August.

My daughter never got into dinos, but she has one a cute interest, for her age. She'll be 8 in a month, and likes to watch CSI, Criminal Minds, and Law & Order with me. And Bones. She was never meant to see those shows at her age, but she had habit of sneaking in the living room so that by the time I noticed she was hiding beside the couch, she'd already seen all the "gross" parts. And she'd be staring with wide-eyed wonder. It started when she was 5. When she was 6, she told me she wanted to be a forensic detective when she grows up and that made me lol. One time last year, we were watching Bones (I think) and they were doing an autopsy. My older boy cried out, "Ewwww!" And my then 7-year old daughter put her hands on her hips, gave him a condescending look, and said, "Tch, it's just a TOY body. It's not real."

But the boys will stick with dinos. And cars, and construction vehicles, and trains, and police cars, and fire trucks.

It took years for me to get that dinosaurs were extinct.
Of course, I saw Jurassic Park the year it came out (yay I was 3!) and I went into my room and started packing my bags because I was going to Jurassic Park!
Hell, I was 14 when it came out and I still wanted to go live there Dad thought it would be interesting survival training...

I'm still 7 when it comes to dinosaurs...I remember when the science museum had a huge animatronic dino exhibit (what, you mean it wasn't last month? ) and when the Walking with Dinosaurs show was in Boston I was begging mom to let me go.

Child Rum likes "Dinosaur Train" though she prefers Dino Dan more.

When I saw the title of this thread, I thought you were referring to these dinosaurs.

Dino Dan! That's one show my dinosaur loving nephew and not so much dinosaur loving niece can agree on. And I don't mind watching it either.

My 4-year-old daughter is kind of dino-nutty right now too. She hasn't really learned the proper names of them all, mostly because Hubby and I haven't been making efforts to teach them to her, but if you were to ask her if she likes dinos, her immediate response is, "Yeah, I like the meat eaters!" with that same emphasis. She usually refers to dinosaurs by their Land Before Time names (longneck, threehorn, spiketail, etc.), loves the dinosaur segment from Fantasia, and recently asked if she could watch Jurassic Park because it has a dinosaur on the DVD case. We vetoed that last, just because we don't think she's currently ready to watch it, mentally. She also loves going to the university museum to see the dinosaur skeletons, and used to call them dragons (yes, we're geeks).

She loves dinos so much, actually, that when we were visiting my parents recently and took both girls to the fabric store to pick out fabric for Youngest's new apron, my mother let Oldest pick out some fabric too, and she made a beeline for the dinosaur prints. She now has a dinosaur pillowcase, which has replaced the princess pillowcase that used to cover her pillow. Go figure.

The story I heard was that the paleontologist who named Brontosaurus had the wrong skull for his skeleton, and while they've "updated" the skeleton at the Peabody, since it's the one that named the Brontosaurus in the first place it gets to keep that distinction. I'll have to check the signs next time I go though (yes, that's the aforementioned university museum).

I love dinos too. Brontosaurus was my favorite, I was quite annoyed when they changed his name!

I saw one of those animatronic dino shows at our local science museum. It was great! There was one that would move its head so randomly it was scary.
