Update: Just got home from work and holy fucking hell is it snowy outside! I saw one snowplow going the opposite direction, and one heading west on a blacktop on my way home. The highway? COVERED. The blacktop into town? COVERED. Long, slow drive home that was. if it keeps up like this, we may just get that six plus inches of snow. As I said on Twitter just now: Hello, Winter. I haven't really missed you that much, actually.

We were bumped up to 6+ inches last night, then lowered to an Advisory this morning, then bumped back up to around 5 inches.........I just wish we'd get a big fat ZERO, but since it's impossible, please, oh please, have MERCY on us. Please.
But of course, we're in the biggest high risk area of the cell. Go figure.

It's our turn with the winter storm watch today through tomorrow--four to six inches expected, but we'll see. They've already lowered the amounts expected once. Last time we were supposed to get a dusting (2 days ago) we got exactly jack shit, so this one doesn't worry me much either.

My friend in Wisconsin called me last night and in our conversation told me where she lives is supposed to get 6 or more inches. Which isn't good cause she needs to go to the nearest big city (living as she does in a literal village) to buy some stuff for a trip next week.

Well, we had an inch or snow of the really wet sloppy stuff early Thursday morning, and on less travelled roads (by where I work, since it's kinda out of town a bit), the slop kind of grabbed onto your tires and made it hard to keep going straight in the same direction. My "low traction" warning light came on many times, and I am probably one of the pokiest winter drivers I know.

We have like...an inch of snow outside? If that?
And it was absolutely hilarious when my aunt was like "omg can't drive in so much snow!"
...it's not even an inch.

We've been under a Storm Watch since last night, it lasts until Sunday morning.
4-6 inches expected. Ah, fuck me running.
Oh, on top of it, nearly every moment of the newscast was about this stupid impending snowstorm. For Fucks Sake, 4-6 inches in Wisconsin is like ANY OTHER WINTER DAY. Seriously? Get people paranoid much?
And oh, the stores are so excited that they'll be making so much money off of snowmobiles and snowblowers and ski trails are so excited to be opening. Shut the fuck up.

Around here the sea usually *does* freeze solid enough to play ice-hockey on, never mind the lakes. It won't do that for a while yet though, it's still well above freezing for some reason.

They stand on the beach waiting for the ocean to freeze solid enough to play. Copious amounts of alcohol are drunk while waiting.Quoth Jester View PostJ
So where do they play?

They also featured in an advertising campaign for vegemite

Count me as a fan of the Gold Coast Suns.Quoth fireheart View PostSuns (Gold Coast)
Not that I'll ever see a match, mind you. But I'm an alum of Arizona State, whose school colors are maroon and GOLD, and I am a huge fan of the NBA's Phoenix SUNS. So, duh, it's not that tough to figure out where my allegiance would be in that sport if I suddenly found myself living in Oz.

They don't.Quoth Jester View Post
So where do they play?

It's sort of a running joke. They also don't have an AFL team (neither do Canberra or Tasmania). For the record, one state has one team, three states have two teams and one state has a whopping 11 teams, although this is because when the AFL was actually formed, it was really just expanding the Victorian Football League to allow other teams. Some of the names for said teams as well are just....well let's see...we have the Dockers (Freemantle), Blues (Carlton), Saints (St. Kilda), Swans (Sydney), Power (Port Adelaide), Suns (Gold Coast) and Bombers (Essendon). Along with your usual lineup of Cats, Hawks, Crows, Eagles etc.
In the more rural regions of Australia, it can get up to that high. Oodnadatta has recorded temperatures of 50C in the past.I've lived through 50C. Of course, that was back home in the Phoenix, Arizona area, but still, even for Phoenix, that is pretty damn hot.
For those of you who don't do quick conversions from C to F, 50C is 122F. And that was in the shade, since all temperatures are measured in the shade. In the sun, it was much hotter. And in Phoenix, we really don't have any damn shade.

That's usually my line, tooQuoth Jester View PostAnd of course, now I've probably pissed many of you off, reporting as I often do on the wonderful weather here, as opposed to where you are. Well, just remember, I CHOSE to live here. And you live where you live....why, exactly?
I grew up in New Jersey and made a conscious choice to move to Florida...no money, a pretty terrible boyfriend and his mother to live with (gack), no job, and all my family up North. Still don't regret it at all. Didn't make it as far south as Jester but it's usually just fine here

Just stepped out on to my balcony.
Beautiful night out, slight chill in the air, bringing it down to about 68F (I just checked weather.com....damn, I'm good, it IS 68!), so out on the balcony I was, in socks, shorts, and t-shirt. I only have the balcony door open because I'm cooking chili and my roommate bitched.

So where do they play?Quoth TopEndDave View PostWe do have an ice hockey team but no ice rink.
