  • Of course, it had to come out of the deep freeze to snow on my birthday yesterday, but thankfully, none of that several inch nonsense that they had been beefing it up to be.

It is getting very old, though, and I'm so tired of continually cleaning the floor and taking my shoes off before I come in. Seriously, snow can go get fucked. I want clean floors.

    • There is a sea going tug for sale that is being retired by the army. we could possibly actually afford to buy it. I want to tell the freaking bank to shove their mortgage, load everything we own into a storage locker, take the cat and go somewhere warm and friendly. They can figure out how to sell the freaking place.

Hm, 18 000 gal bunker. We could go around 5000 miles [nautical] on that much bunker. One heck of a road trip.

Chromatix, THAT is why I live on a tropical island!
I honestly don't mind cold weather, provided I get to wrap up adequately against it. Also provided I don't slip on an icy hill and fall on my arse. Dealing with Key West's weather would be distinctly uncomfortable for me - too hot!

So given that my return to work next week will probably involve commuting to a customer site which is considerably less convenient in terms of public transport than the office, I plan to invest in winter boots with actual hobnails in them. Especially considering that one of the routes recommended by my iPhone app involves a full 2km of walking.

Aside from the slipping hazard, it is actually quite safe to walk outside in Helsinki even in the worst weather I've yet seen. As long as you're not a complete idiot, that is.

        • And now we have....ice. Thanks a fucking lot, Mother Nature. I WAS gonna go clear my car off today so I don't have to tomorrow...Ugh.

          • Yeah, it's been sleeting/freezing rain all day, then we're under a winter storm watch until 6 pm tomorrow. Two to four inches. The ride home tonight wasn't terrible, but most of the roads had been treated on and off and hardly anyone was out when I drove home, so there was no pressure and I feel if I'm the only car on the road I can drive great in any bad weather because no one is putting any onus on me to go fast or whatnot.

And again, Fuck you, Mother Nature. You just can't quit it, can you?

            • I am NOT looking forward to the drive to work tomorrow morning. Ugh. We had ice today, now snow (as you called it, blas, making a winter time cake) and the wind is supposed to pick up and cause all kinds of hell. Wonderful combination...really...can it be spring now??

              • The blowing snow is what really gets to me. It goes up the stairs and onto the porch and it's impossible to take my shoes off without getting a huge mess on the floor. If it would just quit snowing long enough, I wouldn't have to mop the floor every darn other day, or clean my shoes every day.

                • We had ice this afternoon, which I didn't know until my foot hit it at the bottom of the stairs. Yeah, I fell. No owies, though, even though I landed on my knee. Then, when I got to work, I let the front-end sup know the parking lot was ice. Apparently I was the 174,876,296th person to mention it.

                  • Yeah, my parking lot here is glare ice. I can't take out the garbage.

There are elderly people living here and they do nothing about how slippery it gets.

                    • I'd like to take a moment to point out that we had everything from blizzard warnings to tornado warnings on the national (US) weather map last night. hell, we still do. Mother Nature is being particularly testy right now! Wow! Also, my thoughts to those in TN, KY, AL and I hope everyone fared last night's storms alright!

                      • Snow since before I woke up this morning, and I think it's a bit warm so it's melting a bit, but since it's cold enough to be snowing...

Fuck it, I'm glad I don't have to work today.

                        • Winter Storm warning already issued, starts at noon tomorrow and goes until Wednesday night.

(Don't ask, they've put us under watches and warnings days ahead of time before)

So far, forecast is 6 to 12 inches.

And, unlike last week where the storm they originally predicted (that was supposed to be Sunday, yesterday) went another direction, this one won't.

I have to go in to work tonight, cancel my time off request I had in, and hopefully get it changed to tomorrow. No effing way. Not doing it. Just hope I don't get told no, because I know how much trouble you can get in for asking off and then calling in.

I might want to see that

We were supposed to get several inches of snow yesterday, but the storm went to the north of us. We just got a few flakes.

Now Tuesday we're supposed to get pounded by snow. We'll wait and see.
