I actually have a story bit where there's some embarrassment based on name/gender confusion. Person going for an interview thinks they're meeting someone named Don and does something witnessed by a woman in the elevator and learns that the interviewer is actually named Dawn. It gets a little awkward after that.

When he went to college he was originally put in a woman's dorm. It was remarkably difficult to get his room changed.
Was it really all that difficult, or did he just not try all that hard?

        THIS is Nerf Mjolnir.
        Me like.

As for the dental stuff, you might look into finding a local dental teaching facility. While you have to put up with having students work on you, you get massively reduced prices.
Not for this sort of thing. I'd do a school for basic cleaning, but the tooth is fucked up enough that it might have to come out completely (granted, I'm no dentist but the missing piece is a BIG chunk, and who knows how long it's been messed up? I have bad teeth.) I want a pro for that, especially since I don't handle pain well At All. (I had to be put to sleep when I had my extractions done in December and you'll never know how glad I am that I was out for all of that.)

But this. *points above* This is why I seriously think about throwing up the towel for good. I am so God Damn Sick of struggling to get ahead one measly pissant step, only to get kicked about ten huge paces backwards Every. Fucking. Time. I'm never going to be stable, am I. I need an ugly-ass Trump douchebag hairpiece so I can point to my own life and say "You're FIRED!"

pick whatever name you want that means something to you, and fuck what the rest of the world thinks.
In that case I am gonna get a LOT of weird stares...!

The only thing I can add to this discussion would be not to choose "Banfield." That's the name of the veterinarian clinics attached to Petsmart.

My Ex is one of them that skews towards female in the us. The number of times people have just assumed he was female, when they had a form that listed his gender in front of them... When he went to college he was originally put in a woman's dorm. It was remarkably difficult to get his room changed.

Never underestimate the obstinateness of bureaucracy.

Had he made little or no effort to get his dorm changed, it would have been done in half a heartbeat.

Aww, I kinda like that one. (Didn't choose it based off the clinics either; I saw it listed somewhere on a law firm's advertisement once and thought 'hey, that's a cool name')

                  And?

Honestly, you get used to them. And you stop caring really fucking quickly. And once you stop caring, a lot of other people stop caring, once they realize that you don't care.

My son has a Nerf Mjonir.

                    It hurts.

Wasn't there a Seinfeld episode where a white woman had the last name Chang? They found out her name was Changstein and she changed it to Chang to mess with people. So having a Japanese name would at least let you mess with people with no effort.

We had some family pics taken by a lady with the last name Foxborough. I thought that was cool.

Edit: as a teen I had extensive dental work (braces for 6 years and other stuff- I have a congenital condition that causes my enamel to be pitted and scarred, causing all sorts of problems). They were completely fine. The students have teachers looking over their shoulders and who always check their work afterward. I wouldn't worry about that part at all, I'm sure dental school can handle anything you throw at them.

Btw, to comment on the cross-cultural thing, there was a girl in my first high school with a name that was NOT the one below, but was similar in its cross-cultureness:

                      Azumi Silverstein.

Yes, she was Asian. Yes, her last name was Jewish. I am guessing it was from adoption, but who knows? More importantly, who cares? No one seemed to give her too much shit about it. Actually, she seemed rather popular.

IMO - put something that BOTH makes you smile and feel "you" BUT something that doesn't make you stick out like a sore thumb. My reasoning there is if you don't want people finding you, you don't give them a ticket.

                        Cloud 'o Doom:
Sweety, Been there, Done that, gotcha beat hands down. I turned down $1200/mo unemployment to get $200 month and Medicaid.....I'm living in a room, shared kitchen etc with other people. We're all special, in one way or the other.
I can't afford new clothes, shoes, undies. And I'm not even making a step forward monetarily. I don't know if/when I'll get a job.

                        Ok. Back to Name Ideas:
Anne. Ashleigh. Brenda. Cassidy. Robin. Pat. Lynn. Lynne. Lane. Selena. Sanity. Terry. Theresa. Victoria. Vicky. Cool Chick. Renee. (I've always loved Renee) Elizabeth Beth. Lizard head.
Iona. Helen. Helen T. Legend. Sonya. Allison, Allie, Amy..

I have a very specific last name, and the people with our last name are related. VERY. We're not like Smith or Jones or Brown. We're VERY related and if you've got my last name, you're from HI or CA, west coast stuff. Not like we're inbred lol, just only one family with our last name. Maybe 2, but the family forked/broke about 4 gen ago. Yeah. That's why I don't WANT a name that's so specific.
If I want to hide from parents/assholes/anyone, I won't have tattoos, marks, funky hair color OR an obvious name. This is just me being pragmatic. It's all up to you.

Contact me for a mood chart, if you can track it and point a pattern out, your doc/medical people have a better idea on what all is happening.

Weeeeeelllll....yes and no. It's a little complicated, for me anyway.

On the one hand, I've always been a huge fan of self-expression, and I'm certainly no stranger to it. It takes less energy to be yourself than it does to suppress parts of yourself that you know others would find unacceptable. And it's more fun.

OTOH, if you're in somewhat of a precarious situation (as I am), rocking the boat either has to be done with extreme caution, or not attempted at all. And, if you have bullying scars (like I do), over time it becomes second nature to guard yourself first and foremost. (I have to agree with Der Cute on that count.)

Granted, a name change is relatively low on the list of eye-popping things. But, old habits die hard.

Someone I know is from Egypt. You can tell; skin, face, accent. He's Egyptian. His first name is Aladdin. Here we call him Alan. He came to America due to wars and home problems. He got here, and was having problems finding jobs due to his name. He couldn't figure out what to have his alias/name. He saw a can of beer, and said, ok, that's my name. Alan Miller.
After he started using that, he got jobs. He would show up, and get wtf looks from the management, but did his job and did good. A name really does make a difference.

Here's a link to the mood chart. http://bit.ly/JKRtHj I use it alllll the time, it helps me and my doc figure me out. Since we both have Cloud 'o Doom with us, this helps me keep an eye on Doom. data collection is great for doctors. Anecdotes don't do much.

Ever read George RR Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series? There are some very cool, unusual but not completely weird names in that, both first names and surnames. For last names I like Manderley, Tully, Selmy, Swann and Greyjoy. Some of his nifty first names for women are Sansa, Arya, Daenerys, Lysa and Lyanna.

                                Sudden realisation.

DONT pick a supervillain name. You never know when some meddlesome super hero will mistake you for their archnemesis and give you trouble. XD
