Yeah my friend took it when we were at a charity formal. I have NO idea why she took the picture at that angle, but the angle bugs me as well.

Though I will take care to follow your suggestions next time I want got take a proper photo.

So, even after learning about the 'negging' thing due to XKCD (link) I had managed to block that aspect of human filth from my mind and simply assumed that people were just flat out trolling dating websites.

Honestly, it's just trolling either way, and as we all know, don't feed the trolls.

Just for kicks I've played with the image with GIMP. I am a bit useless so I can't find a way to recolour it to be less yellow but I've turned it and rather than cropping out your arms (too much 'myspace') I've added a black frame.

I'm sure other people could do something about the colour.

We've been raised to look for Barbie, Twiggy, Kate Moss....

Look at this image of a runway model & a healthy 'normal' woman.

Your photograph looks like the woman on the right, body fat percentage-wise. There are people who expect every woman to look like the woman on the left.

We've had people complaining about one of Australia's Olympic athletes, claiming that she is fat!! She qualified fifth fastest in the world in her trials. If someone capable of that is unfit, I'm a banana. And Irv's that grilled cheese sandwich.

Anyway.

It wouldn't matter if you were burn-scarred, disfigured, overweight, anorexic: there is no right for anyone to say those things to you.

Part of it is unrealistic expectations.
Part of it is that you could have a better photograph.
Most of it is that they're jerks. And by 'most of it', well, I guess I mean all of it.

(BTW: in the Gimp, to de-yellow that pic, experiment with the tools in the colours menu. Particularly 'color balance' and 'hue-saturation'. You can also use 'levels', 'curves' and 'threshold', which take a bit more experimentation but can give you a more precise result.)

I tried that but I couldn't reach a 'natural' point with the pic and it was making the photo blotchy.

Look at this image of a runway model & a healthy 'normal' woman.

That "plus size" model is so much more attractive to me and after doing a quick poll in the house, everyone else thinks so too.

Also hinakiba777, everyone in my house, including me thinks you're pretty, just that you need a better picture, and that a bad quality picture is no excuse for those boys being morons and jerks to you.

An easy way to gauge whether you're being oversensitive is to insert something else into the comment.

I am just really concerned for your disfiguring burn scars.
We are in a society where looks/ skin colour matters
I am friends with tons of people I find of a different religion from me
I am not going to comment on your birth defect
Aren't you concerned for you ethnicity?
Why are you on a dating site when you aren't concerned with making yourself curly-haired?

This trick helps me a lot.
