Well, I'm still blocked on mine...

    But there is good news!

My Nano for last year, Star Force One: Origins, was based on a story my friend Allan Ironside wrote several years ago. He abandoned the story after a computer crash and a decision to focus his writing into other areas... and other RL concerns (going back to school, marriage, child raising) got in the way as well. I took his ideas, tweaked and expanded and made changes to them, and wrote my own take on the series.

Allan never got around to reading it (again, because he had other demands on his time), but he finally did this week. And he LOVED it. To the point where he wants to help contribute. Which I gladly took him up on.

So even though I probably won't beat 50k this year, I now have a collaborator again. And I am happy.

So... halfway through the month, and I've got 1 day's worth of writing done. >_>

Will keep working strong, however, regardless of how far I have left to go.

Another great thing about getting in touch with Allan again is I actually finally did whip up an outline for my story. Some things like character names still need to be hashed out, but we're getting there.

          Progress!

By the time I got my power back and actually remembered about it it's too late for me to start, there's always next year I guess. Probably by then I'll have some sort of idea of what the hell I'm gonna do.

I'm not going to make 50K this year. That's OK; I really need to take this story apart and rewrite a lot of it anyway.

I've considered participating in Nanowrimo. I've got a few ideas I'd like to develop.

I took a creative writing course my sophomore year of college, and published a story in the college literary journal. I wasn't really satisfied with how it turned out because I let my internal editor get in the way, and found myself just trying to churn out a manuscript before the publication deadline. Even so, I got quite a few compliments from classmates, faculty, and others who seemed to like it.

I've always wanted to develop the idea from that manuscript, but have never really gotten around to it. It's evolved in my own mind, but I've not put those changes to paper other than a few disjointed notes here and there. Other projects and life in general just always seemed to get in the way.

                  Last week for Nano!

I'm currently sitting at 45K and should, with luck, finish up the 50K by Wednesday.

No, my novel's not done, but damnit, I'm getting things validated.

                  How about everybody else?

I'm at 35k, and a bit stalled. but it probably only has 5k left to wrap up the story. Granted 15 to 20k of it was written in October too. This month I just haven't been able to focus as much as I wanted to on writing.

I should reach 50k right on schedule.

I really hate my plot. It's a hot mess, and I changed directions multiple times. I really should have put together an outline before I started. What I did enjoy were the sci-fi settings and world-building I did. Those parts can be salvaged and used elsewhere. The story as a whole, though, I don't think I'm going to really touch it after NaNo. I may go back and continue revising last year's novel. It seems to look especially good after the mess I wrote this year.

Hubby wants my novel for this year, so I'll give it to him when I'm done and he can do whatever with it. I'm going take a break and go back to polishing up a flash fic I wrote before NaNo started, and then finish my zombie apocalypse short story. Then I'll get into revisions of last year's work.

Hubby tried this year, but didn't finish. He got over 10k written, though. It's...he's writing an erotic novel. Yeah. He says he's still going to try and at least tie off the story before the end of the year.

                        I FINISHED!

Well. I hit 50K last night. The story's technically still not done, but it looks like it's going to need another month. But that's okay.

I've only passed 15K, I definitely won't see the 50K this year. I'm learning where the story needs work, so it's still been a productive month. This half of the book has been harder to write than the first half, probably because I keep seeing things that I will have to go back and fix. It'll get done, just not by Nov. 30.

I gave up. I tried to keep up with it at first, even with all the personal crap and stress that I've had this month. But all my free time has been taken up by dealing with my mom's estate and I just can't concentrate on the story.

I suddenly remember Delenn's line from Joe's script. Not a bad prospect. I am not afraid. In the meantime, let me close my eyes and sense the beauty around me. And take that breath under the dark sky full of stars. Breathe in. Breathe out. That's all."

Finished at 50,017. Going to write about another 2k to tie off the story, and then I'm done with it. Hubby wants to take over from there. I really am not that satisfied with it, so I'll hand it off to him.
