I'm in Arlington, just west of DC. The power here has flickered a couple of times, but is still on. We have a whole house natural gas generator, so we are prepared. Here are some web sites for following the storm:

    National Hurricane Center

Dominion Electric Outage Map - VA and NC

    Weather Radar Stations

Being in Ohio I don't expect to get much of it, but we've already had a little snow. Didn't stick to the ground though.

Is it my imagination, or do the storm tracks make it look like Sally has a mad-on to hit the entire state of Pennsylvania?

    Stay safe, people.

Channels 9, 4, and 5 were there at Pier Village.

Wind was super strong. Hard to walk against.

Power has been flickering now off and on. I fully expect it to go off for good soon. And then I'll be trapped with my parents, aunt, and two little cousins.
I'm watching channel 7; apparently Seaside Heights has lost power.

They showed a shot in Cape May at a beach access point; the waves come up and wash over the walkway and into the parking lot, which has just the parking meters showing above the water (you can see about an inch of pole).

    This is Atlantic City http://instagram.com/p/RXoEkohmER/

They also showed a quick shot of Union Beach where my friend lives (don't know what street they were on)...I am really worried for her house (they all evacuated yesterday). It'll probably be at least a few days before they'll get back in.

And now they're showing a crane somewhere in Manhattan, at the top of a building under construction that looks like it's gonna fall off. They're closing streets around it in case it does.

My power has flickered a few times now but hasn't gone out. Yet. My parents' went out a couple times for a few minutes.

Now they're saying landfall around 6:00. Wind gusts are getting scary here.

    Stay safe all.

I'm out in the Buffalo area, and everyone is all freaking out for the "Frankenstorm" part of all of this.

It took me until I started reading this thread to realize that people over-reacting is why I got stuck with crap-tastic 1% milk and in all honestly, I went because I just happened to be out of milk and eggs.

And it's not supposed to get super messed up until tonight and into tomorrow I guess.

Snow on Halloween? Yep. When I went trick or treating, we had to figure out costumes that would fit over snow suits.

Our work let out at 1pm today. They gave us an emergency number and said it was be tentatively opening tomorrow at 11am. My night job was cancelled tonight and tomorrow

Everyone I love is safe so far

I've got some food for a few days. Hopefully everyone will be ok.

I have a few friends in Philly that I'm worried about, and my boyfriend in south jersey.

Anthony Johnson reporting live from Long Branch right now! Are you there?

    Wow, look at those waves.

He's talking to a kid who's probably about 11 and asked what she thinks; she said, "I've never seen this before."

Now they just went to the other guy with the seafoam flying by; he's in Seaside Heights...huddling against the side of a building (when he's not out demonstrating the power of the wind).

We're here. Roof is leaking (Seraph is not happy right now), but that's all that's a problem right now. They're canceling school for tomorrow, and husband just called to let me know they're all leaving early, and that they're closing work for tomorrow.

My only observation right now is in honor of Ollie Williams.

    ITS RAININ SIDEWAYS.

BE, it was Pier Village. Sea Bright flooded out yesterday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHBQAdeEkFk&feature=plcp - North Long Branch near Sea Bright.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R9GKbd__yck&feature=plcp - My normal filming spot in Long Branch.

Me at the beach this morning (attached) to spare people with slower internets.

One of my CWs was saying last night that given we are in a state of emergency, anyone who shows up for work until it's lifted should be paid double (I think only three of us live within a no-driving-required distance).

I dont mind the working, its the leaving the family. I personally love working during storms. A lottery is an interesting idea. Generally if it gets bad enough here, the hospital breaks out the cots in the meeting rooms and everyone hunkers down and signs up for extra shifts.
Since I live on the Gulf coast, every spring they create a ride out team and a recovery team. All essential people at my hospital (and most others) must be on one or the other. No one in the ER wants to be on the recovery team after Ike so they had to do a lottery to pick the ride out team and everyone else is recovery. Either way, you'll be at work for 4 or 5 days minimum; at least the ride out team starts with hot water and toilets.

We have to plan in advance and assume the worst for this sort of thing because our hurricanes (when they hit, looking at you Rita) are bad. The only tropical storm whose name was retired hit Houston and caused billions in damages. Ike had people out of power for a month.
