The cat has been re-homed, so as IPF mentioned, the point is moot. A number of the comments have been moving into Fratching territory, here -- and we all know where to take those. Kindly do so.

Well, the cat has been gone for a good chunk of time now.

Unfortunately he left a legacy. We now have 2 cats that continually wander into the yard. One is definitely female (it's a tortie, so either it's female or it has the cat version of Klinefelters) the other I believe is female based on the collar and whatnot the owner gave it. Clearly the cat has been marking his territory because NO cats wandered around prior to the change of lease.

We also have 2 cockatiels in the backyard that belong to Nord's sister. It's a miracle that the cats haven't been terrorising said cockatiels...

Outdoor cats will always stray into un-protected territory. When we started keeping our cat indoors, other neighbourhood cats took over our yard.

Fortunately, we own the property and it's common in my city to have 2m high back yard fences: if we ever decide to have another indoor/outdoor cat, one of our expenses will be to catproof the back fences (basically, turning the whole backyard into a cat-cage). The RSPCA has a booklet on ways to do that.
        Seshat's self-help guide:
        1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
        2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
        3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
        4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.
