Helping someone out of an abusive home

I grew up in an abusive home. When I realized it was an abusive home, I left. I called up my friend across the country and convinced them to let me stay at their house because I'd never get out of mine. After moving 2,000 miles away from my problem I then began cleaning their house for free until I found a job. It took four months but I found one and now have my own apartment.
