Magical Calendar

The hospital that owns me distributes company made calendars that serve as "christmas gifts" from them to us. Sure.

Anywho, I was looking over the calendar and stopped at the month of May to see when my birthday falls and to send in a time off request.

My eye is drawn to the corner of the calendar where the 30 and 31st of May are printed on the same exact day. So, my magical calendar says that May 30th and 31st are BOTH on a Saturday.

Yay! Three day weekend!

*makes me wonder what else they flocked up. though I did notice there are three Friday, the 13ths this year!*

Unless this is one of those calendars which prints Saturday and Sunday in the same slot, letting them print six squares across instead of 7?

Nah I've seen it before, they just do it for months that start and end mid-week.

It prevents them from having to print an extra line just to put 1 or two extra days in. Saves paper/ink/money

I mean if the month ends on a sunday, why put an entire extra line of space for one 2 inch block?

It wasnt in a Saturday/Sunday Square. They just put both dates in a Saturday. All they had to do was have the 24th share a square with the 31st since that was the most recent sunday. Make sense?

Ahh.. It was too big which is why i couldnt get it on in the first place.

I think I might have figured it out.

Maybe...I'm going to assume the 31st is a Sunday, so they did that rather than make a whole new row for one square...?

They wouldnt have had to make a new row though. They just wouldve had to have the 31st share the square with the 24th (which is a sunday), like any normal calendar does when they run out of space......

But if they didn't want to add a row for just one Sunday, couldn't they have wrapped around on the page & put it on the first row i.e. above the 3rd? That's what most of the calenders I've had have usually done

Both options are compromises, Amina516's option would make the day-count go: 24-31-25-26-27 etc, and Greek_Jester's option would make that 31'th look part of the previous month. So the option the maker of this particular calendar chose is not that strange.

The most appropriate option would off course to make the margins on both the up and down-side a little smaller or make the picture of that month a little smaller and take that extra line. But if neither option is available, the solution to paste the Sunday into the Saturday previous to it, seems agreeable.

On the stupidity of calendarmaking though (just thought of it). The company I work for starts every week with the Sunday, administration regards every Sunday a part of the week following it (I work in a store which opens every first Sunday of the week, so that does indeed matter) and every promotion starts on a Sunday and ends on Saturday. Quite surprisingly, the calendar the main office sends the stores every New Year starts every week (line) with the Monday.

Needless to say, we don't hold the main office in that high regard.
