...probably today. My first solo closing and I screwed up. I managed all closing duties except the actual drawer count and deposit.
There was an event downstairs as well right up until I was supposed to be out of there, and the coworker running the event was using the DB at the same time I was trying to do ending processing (big no-no...EOP will fail spectacularly if anyone else is using it; he didn't tell me it was still in use).*
We managed to somehow salvage that (however a printer issue resulted in my only being able to locate one page; the other two are probably down there somewhere), at which time it was 20 minutes after I was supposed to have clocked out and I was in danger of missing my train. The store A/C is broken, and at that point I also had a massive headache from the heat and my brain was just not working (90F outside all day; the downstairs event space was a comfy 75 but I don't want to know what upstairs was...I do know I fielded a number of complaints about the heat)
I did count the drawer and it balanced with the sheet, but I didn't have time to actually prepare the deposit. This is totally my fault, and I realize that. I meant to leave a note explaining the sitch, but that brainstorm came a second after the back door locked on me and I still don't have keys.
* we really need some sort of intercom system between the two floors...
The owner will tolerate mistakes but not active malice. Hopefully I can explain that it was a screwup and it will not happen again (at least, not if this coworker makes some effort to help out with closing). I'm usually pretty on the ball, but I do blame the heat for part of this one.
