Mispeaking can make a situation awkward

A co-worker of mine, years ago, answered the phone this way:

"Classified advertising, this 'Annie', can you help me?"

We're still laughing about that one....especially on busy days...

One time, I answered my home phone with the greeting for my job at the time.

It was my mother calling.

The worst misspeaking is gasping out the wrong name at a climactic moment.

Uh-huh. Good way to end up getting in big trouble.

When I answer the phone I almost always have to think before I start talking. Because I worked at a small grocery store for about a year and a half as a cashier and we were supposed to answer the phone when it rang. After I left that job I didn't have to answer phones at work for almost a year so I still wanna say "Thank you for calling <Organic Grocery Store Franchise> How can I help you?" instead of "Thank you for calling <National Drugstore Chain> How can I help you?"

Best part of doing that on my end is when I catch myself at the pick-up before saying, "Thank you for calling _______. My name is D, how can I help you?" and just kind of pause. I swear I almost drool!

Total deer in headlights moment for like three seconds, then I force myself to say "Yo" before the awkwardness becomes alarming.

I have to bite my tongue really hard at (Coffee Shop A) and not respond to the drive-thru with (Old Coffee shop Job)

This was a while ago, but it still makes me giggle to this day. We were all just sitting around at home when the phone rang. My mom answered it, as she was already expecting a call from someone. How did she answer? "Pizza Hut, how can I help you?" Now, she's never worked at Pizza Hut. She just did that as a joke. And it was pretty funny....especially because it was my sister's teacher who was calling. XD

I've done that accidentally.

*phone rings*
"Hi my name is whiskey what can i-- oh god damn it."

Usually after about five minutes the laughter stops. :|
