  • I gipped this woman $100

The day seemed normal as soon as I counted in my SM (supervising manager) told me that we have a new way to stack our chips. I don't want to go into details--someone from my work might read this and piece together who I am or something.

Anyway, I had the number 5 stuck in my head from her explaning the new procedure to me.

Well, this woman came to my window with green $25 chips. Well, we're supposed to stack them four high because that's $100. Well, her total came to four hundred dollars, I paid the four. I thought all was well until...

    Old lady=OL

OL: My husband is very upset! He said I had five hundred dollars not four... How would we go about finding that out?

Me: Um, surveillance can go over the video but it might take a few mins.

    OL: Okay.

SM came over and told her the same thing and called surveillance. I was sooo nervous. I wasn't sure if I had stacked them wrong or not. This OL was being very nice and calm. Props to her for not killing me. The way she was acting I was slightly worried her husband might hit her if it turned out I didn't gip her a hundred.

About fifteen minutes later the SM told me to pay her. I guess I didn't pay her right. It happens. She was very calm about it and told me not to be upset that it was okay. I told her I was sorry (I really meant it too) and she smiled and said it was okay. I paid her.

I've never felt so moronic. Honestly that is a stupid mistake. I've been soo careful since. Though my SM later told me that she couldn't tell if I did gip her on the video but better safe than sorry... She said that my hand was in the way and the cameras couldn't see if I stacked four or five high.

Either or I'm glad she came back. I always feel bad when I realize I gipped someone. That was the FIRST time I've ever stacked chips weird. I balanced that night so they were right--I didn't give her the hundred. I'm glad she realized that everybody makes mistakes, though in the future I'm going to try just a bit harder not to do that again.

So if you guys are in a casino pay CLOSE attention to what you have and when they're counting back to you. We're not always right. And re-count it before you leave (while in the window) and don't pay any attention to people behind you. Really, it may seem SC but at least you have all your money. And I can usually finish putting away the last transaction when people stay in my window for an extra minute.

Great Advice, I don't work in a casino but have been to many. Whenever cashing in chips I always know how much I have and pay attention when the cashier stacks the chips in front of me and counts the money to me.

One question though, after stacking the chips, aren't you supposed to clear your hands from the chips so that the security cameras can get a view of them, I've always seen that happen at whatever casino I'm at, whether it's Vegas, Windsor, Detroit, etc

I was nervous that day because my supervisor was standing there watching me. Sometimes I am in such a hurry because we're supposed to be fast yet accurate. Go figure. I think I was trying to look good to the boss and kind of focused on her so much that I didn't really help the customer as much as I should have. Which in my part is my fault and I should've tried to pay more attention to the transaction.

I keep getting graded low on my customer service because I tend to concentrate more on their money than them. Normally, I couldn't even tell you what my last customer looked like, whether they were a man/woman or what they were wearing.

But since she was there practically up my ass, I was so nervous that I talked to the customer too much and got careless. I guarantee now I make a show of showing the cameras everything. I take my time now.

The same Supervisior gave me pretty good advice which now seems obvious. Don't worry about the line, concentrate on the customer in your window.

My co-worker does this "ta-da" affect with her chips. Holds her hand away from the chips in a I'm-showing-you-a-new-car sort of way. I'm not sure if that makes sense but I guarantee now I will try a bit harder. There's just so much running through my head with every transaction, sometimes its hard to slow down and take a few to make sure its all right.

You'd think they'd be more concerned with keeping the money straight. It's one thing when they're buying a $20 book, but when you're dealing with serious amounts of cash from one person...?

Personally I kind of liked it when the customer would take a few extra seconds to collect their stuff, especially when it's busy. It'd either give me time to put the transaction away or take a quick breather. Whenever they would apologize for stopping to put their wallet away or dig out their keys or whatever, I'd say "No problem...Gives me a little break "

It only took me until the last paragraph to realize you work in a casino.
