There's at least a dozen different pieces of proprietary software that we have to use on a regular basis. Most of them don't work right by themselves, much less together.
    Well that sucks.

He doesn't. He *is* an ego.

The frightening part is how normal that is for many organizations. In house software is crap, but redoing it just leads to new rounds of crappiness. So they get one that mostly works and stick with it for as long as they can.

        • The internal auditors from the main branch are here today. While looking for one of the internal checkbooks for them to reconcile, I had to dig through Goodhair's office (since he's gone today). I never want to have to do that again. What has been seen cannot be unseen. Bad enough that he had used paper towels stuck in his desk. One of the drawers in the cabinet contained a bag that looked like it could have been an overnight bag.

I wasn't going to open it to find out! Even if my first impression was correct, I wouldn't say it was gross, exactly. But it would say something about his questionable ethics.

                    I don't either.

                    • What is the problem with an overnight bag?

I find it is good to always have one ready, specially if you may suddenly have to go meet a client in a place too far to go and come back without staying overnight in a hotel somewhere.

                      • It's not simply the presence of what appears to be a packed overnight bag. It's that he keeps it in his office combined with the chumminess he exhibits with some of his female colleagues. I'm not one to police other people's behavior, but if he's (for example) carrying on an illicit relationship with the manager of the credit union, that's unethical. Also, if such a relationship is going on, I doubt his wife is aware or approves of it.

Goodhair constantly leaves early to go to the casino using the excuse that he has to inspect the construction progress for the loan we're funding. I doubt he's there gambling, but I expect he takes in a round of golf and spends a lot of time at the bar with the tribal elders while he's there. He was gone over half the day yesterday for "meetings" with tribal elders.

On the flipside, Goodhair knows how to navigate corporate politics. He has helped me out with a few situations where the decision from upper management didn't make any sense, and he was able to intervene and get the decision reversed in my favor. I don't believe his claims that he's on our (the employees') side, but I believe when he says he's got the best interests of the bank in mind. I just have to be careful what I say around him and continue documenting his questionable ethics.

                        • It somewhat sounds likes he's not quite as bad as before, but still no angel.

I would still be careful around him though...

                          • I wouldn't say he's any better than before. It's more that I've learned how to deal with the arrogance, smugness, and sexism. And when I say that he has the best interests of the bank in mind, I'm quite certain he means he wants to make sure the bank makes as much money as possible.

                              • Not really. I had put my job search on hold while Hubby was looking for a job in Tennessee, but now that we're splitting up (see here for details), I'm not sure what I'm going to do. As I mentioned in the linked thread, I'm feeling much more stable in my job now. I've gotten the training I needed. I got a raise both from the promotion and at my annual review. It's not quite as much as I wanted, but I don't feel comfortable pushing it right now.
