I want to see how long the commute for the average man in customer service. I know the average commute world wide is twenty-six miles, but that's factoring in a wide variety of professions and life styles. How far do you live from work, and how do you get there? (I'm not doing a poll, because polls are stupid.)

I live exactly one mile from my grill, and there is a pleasent tree-lined boulevard that just happens to lead directly from my house to the restaurant, and this is a rarity in this city: I don't have to walk up any hills, except for one, and that one's got a staircase going up it so it's easy. It takes about twenty minutes to walk there.
You're not doing me a favor by eating here. I'm doing you a favor by feeding you.

I live exactly 10.7 miles from work. Coming home, it is 12.2-12.4 miles

I don't work in customer service per say, but

I live 24.5 miles from my job, and I drive everyday. In my SUV that gets 18-20 miles per gallon.

Ironically, I don't complain about how much I spend on gas either. Just that it's too expensive.

I live 12.2 miles from my job, and it takes me 20-25 minutes in the car. Its the shortest commute I've ever had in my adult working life, and its wonderful. I used to have to take three trains to get to work when I worked in Docklands, and that truly stank. It was a fun job, but I hated the awful commute.

I live about 12 miles from work. Depending on the traffic, it can take me anywhere from 20 minutes to 90 minutes to get to work.
I go in my own car, by myself. I don't car pool because there is no-one at my work that lives near me. There is one girl that lives 9 miles away from me, but it adds to my travel time, and then I also have to inconvenience myself as I will not be able to go to gym first thing in the morning or after work. I prefer travelling on my steam, thank you.

                  6 miles.

10 mins walk to bus stop, wait for bus, 20mins bus ride, another 15mins walk to office.

since the "wait for bus" period varies from 30 seconds to 2 hours, it's a nasty commute. (So am leaving. )

About 9½ miles, or about 17-25 minutes, depending on:
*time of day (I work a couple swing shifts, so it's always different)
*going to work or going home
*whether I have to do the price surveys

I may be moving in a few months, which might be even better (or worse ) because one place I'm looking into is about 5 minutes away from work.

About 10 miles or 10-15 minutes. Now once or twice a week I have a pickup or delivery in a town that is north of the city I work in and west of the town I live in. So I am able to make a big giant loop of it. On those days its about a 60-80 minuted trip (from office to home) but 80% of it is thru the mountains so its cool.

I'm about 16 miles from work. Those 16 miles take about 45 minutes to cover if I'm running late in the morning. Yet, oddly enough, they take only 30-35 minutes in the afternoon. Why? No school buses and crackhead crossing guards stopping traffic at every light to deal with

For Whiskeyclone: 6 miles and about 10 minutes ideally.

For the party venue: 15 miles and 30 minutes.

For the college festival: 13 miles and 27 minutes.

Current job: Three blocks. Yes, I walk.

Previous job: 50 feet, or put another way, just across the street. I walked there, too. (I worked at that job for two years before moving right beside it. I wanted to move and I thought... "hey, I really working in that neighborhood, I might as live there, too.")

Several jobs before that: 30 miles each way during rush hour traffic. I couldn't find a decent job where I lived, so I commuted a bit north. The interstate made it a fairly quick trip... except that for three straight summers, there was massive road construction. 10 miles each way were cut to one lane, and we drove through "cattle chutes" -- concrete barriers on both sides. I didn't like those at all, but I did it any way.

Approximately 5 miles, depending on which way you go. It takes anywhere between 8-20 minutes, depending on who's driving, which way they choose to go, how much traffic there is and what time I start work.
