  • Size to Suck Ratio theory

I've been noticing on the forums that a lot of people who post having the most actual abuse from customers (as opposed to general suckitude and idiocy) tend to be of the smaller persuasion and often female, but that may only be because they're the ones that mention their size during their post.

So, to try and figure this out once I'd like people to post a few things:

    1) General size (preferably a general description, along with height/weight if you feel like it)

    2) Gender

    3) Most common demeanor at work

    and, most importantly:

    4) How much crap you've gotten from customers on a lifetime average.

To start it off, here's me as an example:

    1) Linebacker (6'5", 370 lbs)
    2) Male
    3) Calm/Casual
    4) Very Little

    Ohh, I like this game.

    1) 6'-3", 240 lbs. Medium build, should be closer to 180-200 lbs
    2) Male
    3) calm, jokster
    4) little to none, unless its over the phone. And then it's only from men.

One thing I wanted to add, since most people talk to me on the phone for a long time before I meet them, so when they meet me they may be surprised that I'm 22, but they don't say shit because they know I know my stuff.

        2) female
        3) laid-back and friendly
        4) mostly I get very little grief from folks, except for one guy suffering from tiny-penis syndrome and he will not be so nasty to the next person who waits on him

My head was in the gutter when I read this. Anyway:

          1. Height: 6'2 Weight: 175

          2. Gender: Male

          3. Demeanor: Calm, polite, and laid back.

          4. Dealing with the public in theory: Not a lot as I'm quite tall. Reality: My customers were in big cars usually so the sucky customers had an even match on me when it came to height.

Ooh! I love amateur studies in sociology! Its one of my favourite games.

I'm female, about 5'6", 120 lbs. I'm almost 30, but often mistaken for a teenager.
I'm assertive with customers. I take the lead in conversations, ask pointed questions, be very business-like. I like to keep things on track.
I used to get hassled all the time when I was younger. I haven't gotten grief from customers since I started taking charge.

              Ooo, ooo, this is fun!
Size: 5'0', weigh about 110, petite but *ahem* well formed
              Gender: Chick
              Demeanor: Friendly, helpful and engaging
Amount of crap: I get TONS of crap from creepy old men who like to mention how I'm "a little on the small side, but they like me anyway!", and women who tell me they'd "prefer to talk to one of the men." Overall though, most people are pretty cool. So, I'd say a fair to middling amount.
Perhaps that is the price one pays for being a gender anomaly?

                Ok, here we go.

                1.) height: 5'5" weight: 190 lbs (I'm short and I lift a lot)

                2.) gender: male

3.) demeanor: quiet, intense, constantly moving (good in retail, awful in a government office)

4.) amount of crap: Unbelievable. I attract jerks like trash attracts flies. I'm constantly being tested on how much I can lift or pull, and have gotten crap on a number of occasions for making big guys look like wimps when they're trying to impress their girlfriends. As much crap as I've got over the years no one's yet tried to get physical, maybe it's that little gleam in my eyes that almost begs them to.

                  My turn!!!!!

                  1) 5' 1½" and weigh more than I look. Approx. 150 lbs.
                  2) female
                  3) depends on my mood, but always helpful
                  4) Thinking back to all my jobs, I've had to deal with a lot of crap. I don't have to deal with so much now, except when I work in the deli and/or hot foods areas.

                    1) 5'8", about 165 pounds, pretty average build, on the low end of the intimidation scale.

                    2) Male

                    3) Fairly laid-back and up-beat.

                    4) Not that much, although most of my jobs have either not been in direct interaction with customers or dealing with people on the phone who know I can screw up their precious internets and computers if they tick me off.
However, I'm probably taking a new job selling computers and such to 867-ers soon, so that may change... *Is scared*

                      1) 5'10", 160 lbs athletic but not ripped

                      2) male, but considering changes the way things are going (kidding)

                      3) friendly, helpful, kind of a douchebag.

                      4) A lot of shit, cause I "keeps it real!" (bonus points for who gets the reference)

                        1) 5'2'' and average weight
                        2) female
                        3) proffesionally but casual and confident
                        4) less the older I get and the higher up on the food chain I get. I think much of this comes from experience.

I find if a customer is out to bitch and I am the first person they talk to it's much harder to calm them/make them happy than it is when they are transfered to me.
People always just want to speak to someone who is higher up than the first person they spoke with, even if the second person says the exact same thing.

                          3) Very laid-back, helpful to coworkers and willing to do favors for customers that deserve them.
                          4) Not much once people started realizing that I help them more when they're not being entitled asshats.

                            1) 5'8",110 pounds, kind of skinny. Redhead (actually got two creepy compliments on the street from one guy in one day about the color, to and from the grocery store)
                            2) Female
                            3) Quiet, I guess. But I get more talkative once I'm comfortable in my surroundings.
                            4) Had some old man at my old old job call me a little girl once (in a rude manner, as if I was a stupid kid or something, this was when I was 18 mind you... damn old men). But nothing really out of the ordinary or that stands out in my mind.
