  • No more cheques = more suckiness?

That's what I'm about to find out. O_o You see, my supermarket has decided to no longer accept cheques as payment from today onwards. We've had posters up for a month, plus divider ads and little leaflety thingies that we've given out to every customer who comes bearing a chequebook; yet, I can confidently predict that cuz we're no longer accepting cheques from today, two things will happen.

One, a million people will want to pay for their shopping with a cheque and two, those people will be sucky when denied. I also expect many cries of "But no-one told us!" and "This is outrageous!" Fact is, the supermarket isn't banning cheques to make their life hell, it's for security issues; and that we're fed up of bouncing cheques. At least if you have no money and try to pay with a credit card, the card gets declined. A cheque however goes into the till and then when it's banked, it bounces and there's all that clearup to deal with. But we can hardly expect SCs to understand that.
People who don't like cats were probably mice in an earlier life.

I feel for you. When we stopped taking cheques the suck was huge.
'You can take it, jsut for me!'
    'I'd lose my job.'

I imagine the next few months will be pretty sucky, but I think it'll probably be better in the long run. No more catt-butt faces when you ask for a drivers license or phone number to put a check through, no more huge scenes and backed up lines while you or a manager explains that this person has checks out with you and you can't take another one.

("But I never write bad checks. I got money in the bank!")

But I do feel for you

It's going to be sucky every time someone wants to use a check, but a lot of those instances were sucky already because of them being sucky in general, and some of their checks bouncing.

But it'll be less sucky when you don't have to wait for the procrastinating check writers and you don't have to deal with the ones who refuse to show ID.
