I guess I have to wear a gunnysack to work.

Someone (of course I don't know who), obviously someone who is bored, jealous and has nothing better to do with their time, went over my head and complained about my outfit to my boss last night.

My outfit was a pair of courdoroys (sp?), a long v neck sweater with a tanktop under the sweater to prevent cleavage. But that STILL wasn't good enough I guess!

Oh, and the excuse was "This person was concerned that you'd be a target for sexual harrassment. They didn't so much complain about your outfit as much as they were more worried about your safety!"

Yeah right.....I've been sexually harrassed by two maintenance men for almost a year. Last night was the first time in MONTHS that I didn't wear just jeans and a tshirt. I figured since I got promoted, it would make a better impression to look a little nicer.

So I challenged my boss. If I were, say, flatchested and 100 lbs, OR if I were, say, 50 pounds heavier than I am right now, would I be complained about? Absolutely not. People are too worried about offending flatter chested and bigger girls about their outfits because "young ladies are already so self conscious as it is".

And I'm NOT? Being singled out, almost discriminated, because I'm thin and large chested at the same time? I wasn't wearing a mini skirt and a halter top! I was properly covered. The shirt was long enough to cover my entire belly, even if I sat down or reached up. The tanktop was worn under to PREVENT cleavage!

What next? Should I stop tanning, because it makes my skin look brighter and healthier and would make me a bigger target for harrassment? Should I stop wearing makeup because it's SO distracting? Should I get my hair stripped because it's so bright and shiny?

Give me a fucking break. ANYONE is a target for sexual harrassment. Male, Female, black, white, big, small, tall, short, flat chested, big chested.......EVERYONE! Hell, my trainer asked to be let go from her old department because she had been sexually harrassed by a temp employee. And is she young and large breasted? NO. She's in her 30s and not large chested. There was also a larger girl who was also sexually harrassed by this guy. She isn't toothpick thin or a model either! ANYONE can be sexually harrassed, regardless of age and size and gender. Just because sexual harrassment happens more often with young people doesn't mean it ALWAYS does.

This is so unfair and so stupid it hurts my head.

Also, since we're all adults and I'm a pretty easy going person at work, if that person was SO concerned about MY safety, why didn't they just pull me aside for a chat? Why go over my head when I'm pretty reasonable person and mild tempered?

Off to go knit a gunny sack track suit now....

Bah, I say! Bah and Humbug! I agree, you were being harassed indirectly by someone who's just bitter and jealous.

You, Blas, need to get a job at a better plant.

Uh? She was asked to leave because SHE got harassed?
*re-reads* Oh, no, she asked to be placed elsewhere, okay.

Cords and a sweater?!? This ain't a magazine shoot, cover up!

Bloody hell, what's wrong with people? You should wear that same outfit for a week straight.

Can you guys understand why I didn't even bother suggesting that the dress code be in effect equally for EVERYONE?

I have seen girls wearing low cut shirts with their breasts practically spilling out and I've seen more men's ass cracks than I've ever cared to see in my entire life. And those girls still wear those shirts and those men still don't wear belts. Hmm...wonder why......those girls are bigger girls and those men are older men....

I would like to complain as well. LOSE THE BLOODY TANK TOP! Some of us are trying to, um, concentrate over here!

Preventing cleavage, indeed. What is this world coming to?

Just want to offer you if you want it, sympathy and understanding whether you want the hugs or not.

                    That sucks, blas.

Blechhh, dress codes. They're never equally enforced.

Some people can wear short skirts, cargo pants, untucked shirts, clogs or even flip flops and not be spoken to about their several dress code violations. But let me show up with my shirt untucked because I do a lot of bending, stooping and reaching and don't have time to worry about whether or not my shirt is where it's supposed to be, and management makes damn sure to remind me to tuck my shirt in.

From your description, there was nothing wrong with your clothes whatsoever. Seems like someone is a jealous old busybody. It sounds like a perfectly nice outfit to wear to work.

I'm with ya, Blas....on everything except the 'in their 30s' comment.

Im in my mid 30s and get hit on alot.........................by freaks and old men, but still.

That is total BS though, seriously. Are there ANY females in a position of authority at all that you could go to?

The comment about my coworker in her 30s wasn't about making her feel old, it was proving a point that sexual harrassment does NOT always JUST happen to girls that are 14-20 years old. More often than not? Yes. But always? No.

I'm still irate over the whole thing.

There was a "witness" if you will, in the boss' office with him, most likely because he's male and it's not a comfortable thing to discuss with girls. She was there for support I guess. But she kept agreeing with him, saying it's different with me because it's "sexier" and we want to avoid that and avoid any problems than can arise. Whatever.

Maybe your co-worker secretly has a crush on you and was disappointed to see you with so much clothing on?
