  • Cloverfield and paramedics (long)

I know that i have not posted anything recently. There has been nothing note worthy to talk about as of late.

    Untill tonight that is.

The film Cloverfield came out and on a whole it was a really busy night. I was fried and just wanted to go home. So after taking out the trash, I head back inside to find my supervisors on a wild goose chase to find some guys daughter.

That's not the main point of this story. It gets to be around after 11 when i notice this girl about my age come out of Cloverfield (while the movie was still playing), dubbled over and looking like she might puke.

This was like a given, mostly due to the camera work in the film.

At this point my helpful nature kicks in and i direct her to the nearest trash can. Then we pull over a bench for her and she sits down. The girl doesn't look so hot. She looks Ill and i assume that it's from the movie.

I get her some water and kinda go about my business, not really sure i want to take off just yet (concerned about her and all)

Well, things go from bad to worse as she starts shaking and complaining of just totally feeling f-ed up. She's laying down on the bench, shaking and crying from time to time.

We have no idea what was going on with her, but we called the paramedics and tried to keep her comfortable. Putting some of my schooling knowledge to work, I tried to deduce if she had taken anything and find out that she's on a few different behavioral modification drugs (anti depressants, anti anxiety medication, anti-psychotics etc...)

Rather than being concerned about how messed up this girl is to start with, I'm more concerend as to whether she messed up her medication or whether something else could have set her off (different drugs acting on the body and what not) to which she informs me she hasn't made any sort of mistake.

I'm at a loss at this point. My manager thinks that she might be having a siezure (although i've never witnessed one so i have no way of knowing whether or not this is the case). So she has her friend get in touch with her mother while we wait for the ambulance.

The ambulance comes, the EMT's come in and assess her before getting her on a stretcher and getting her into the ambulance. And the girls mother shows up just as she's getting in.

So, all's well that ends well i guess. Not much of a story, but it just made me concerened for another person and all. Funny thing is is that the girl (mid breakdown) was thanking me for sticking by her when a few other's had just walked past (good samaritan thing and all). Even my manager told me (based on what had happend) that i was a good person.

But I'll tell you, when you see another person in need, man it just does something to you.

    What a night.
Screw normal. You know why? 'Cause if you're normal, the crowd will accept you. But if you're deranged, the crowd will make you their leader.

I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

          Semi-Off-Topic-Possible-Explanation
Backstory: I have anxiety disorder and Panic attacks.
Related to story: If I see a movie thats to intense for me, it can cause a panic attack.
Panic Attacks: Range in severity and in the worst of states, can cause shaking, nausea, throwing up, light-headed, heart racing, etc. etc. etc.

Could possibly be what was going on with her.

Anyways, I'm happy you helped her.

As a disabled person with a few disabled friends, let me assure you that we REALLY APPRECIATE people like you!

And yes, if she's on a lot of psychoactives, it's entirely possible that her meds are reacting to each other, or something in her brain has changed just enough to screw her over. It's theoretically possible that the movie triggered just enough of a change to mess things up. It's very possible that whatever was happening to her was a 'no-one's fault' issue. Just sheer bad luck.

By getting the paramedics for her, and staying with her, you did exactly the right thing.

(Note: even if the paramedics are on their way, if things get worse and you don't know what to do, call emergency again. Some emergency call centres have nurse practitioners on hand, and most/all emergency operators have first aid training.)

Anyway: THANK YOU. Be proud of yourself, you're a good person.
