  • Never saw so many cops. (long)

Wow. I just got off work. What a day. I won't bore you with the other two idiots I had during my shift, just skip to the last one.

I'll also making it known that I too made mistakes during this incident, nor am I proud.

Anyway, Its almost 5 am. Three guys come in. Two of the guys come to me, and ask me to check their food stamp card. Its impossible to do for us. We just can't check balances anymore. Their friend is in one aslie, stuffing, believe it or not, SOAP of all things into his coat.

He leaves, telling his friends he'll talk to them later.

The two get some small candy, and put it on the counter, giving me their card again. I scan it, run it, it clears. Now the guy wants to buy more stuff. I tell him I'm giving them a chance. Tell their friend to give the stuff back, and I won't call police. Their account is ran, we can track it through that, it be just easiest to give the stuff back. They play innocent. I start calling the police. They get nervous, and start screaming at me to give their card back NOW. I'll told them (stupidly) that when the police get here, we can get it all cleared up. The operator answers, I tell them whats up, description, not being violent, no visiable weapons. THe guy is screaming he is innocent, and wants to talk to them. I give him the phone. (Stupidly move 2). He tries to tell them he has no idea what I'm talking about. He gets angry that the dispatch told him they'll send an officer to clear it up. He hangs up, gives phone to his buddy. I take out my cell phone. He screams at me agian to give him his card back. I pick up my cell phone, this really sets him off and he races around the counter and grabs at me, pulling me around. I lose my phone, the store phone is ringing off the hook. I try telling the guy to give me my phone back. (Mind you, the guy is mostly doing a shoving match, and not throwing punches or kicks at me). Their friend comes back, and one of the guys says <Name>, he took our card!. I try telling the guy to give the shit back, and it'll all be cool. He says he never took anything, and just wanted to know where the Pizza Hut is. (ANyone know of a PIzza Hut open at 5 am??). I finally break free, and for some damn reason, my cell phone doesn't call 911. I dial it, and it went to some recording. The three guys then decide to take off, only once they get outside, the parking lot is swarming with at least a dozen cop cars.

Now the guy who (...danced??) with me was the most polite. The second guy who held the phone away from me got tasered, and was consently resisting arrest. Guess what happened to the third one? Did you guess he got away? You win. He was NO WHERE IN SIGHT. I have no idea how the F that happened.

I give me report. THey give their report. I show police tape. Tape matchs what I said, but not what the two said. I have no idea what happened to the one resisting arrest, but the guy against me is getting trespassing, and maybe assult. It was a good view on tape.

I'm slightly surprised. Even when I got robbed, I never saw so many cops. I mean they were everywhere!!

Sounds to me like the police may have already been looking for the trio and your call was in the area they were expecting.

Sounds like the call taker stated in the radio call 'loud disturbance' or some such phrase that normally gets police moving. Breach of the Peace is the UK version, you'll get the world and his wife turn up to that.
A PSA, if I may, as well as another.

Oh we got one kid to spend Thanksgiving in jail. He was caught being the lookout to his buddies stealing stuff, and he made a threatening gesture at me. Cops saw it, I looked at the cops, they got the message real quick. I looked at a customer I was helping and asked "Is it me... or do you have the sudden urge to start singing the COPS theme?" The customer started laughing.

Sounds to me like what happens when you hang up on 911 and then don't pick up when they call back (you mentioned the phone was ringing like crazy).

Quickest way to get cops to respond. Call 911 and hang up. Then don't answer when they call back. Every cop in the city will be there within minutes.

(sort of) Fifteen minutes ago I read a livejournal post with the same title as this thread... it was about a hold-up at a chocolate factory. Unfortunately the post is friends-only or I'd link it.

Yeah, that gets them here hella fast here too. If they can't make contact they'll send every cop inside a 10km radius.

I'll never understand resisting arrest. May as well just walk up to them and tell them to taze you straight up. Get it over with. ;p

During the holidays, someone tried to pass a fake $100. Okay well I'm sure tons of people did, but this one takes the cake.

He passed it to one of the customer service supervisors, who's been burned a couple of times in the past by fake bills.

At the customer service desk, instead of going to a busy register - if the cashier at a busy register catches it, usually the "customer" takes off.

Next to the off-duty cop (in full uniform) that does our security.

Supe held the bill up, noticed it was fake, made eye contact with the cop, the cop took it from there.

How stupid do you have to be to try and pass a fake bill in front of a cop?

ironically i was talking about that with my bf a day or two ago - counterfit money. most people don't try to fake the big stuff cos you don't normally see it, so you're more apt to scrutinize it.

usually they just do the 20s. (but keep in mind....there's always the little strip running down the side of the bill)

could have been the cops calling back too, especially if the guys had been screaming to begin with.

and i don't really feel you made many mistakes. you tried to assist them... you couldn't have known ahead of time they were going to be total thieves. hindsight is 20/20 they always say.

i'm just glad they got two of the guys. most likely they'll be able to pressure them into giving up the 3rd guy anyway. (honor amongst thieves only happens in fantasy books)
