Hey guys, I hope you had a good day yesterday.
Today it's snowing. Not a lot, but enough that you don't really want to be out in the roads if you don't have to. They said it would be six to eight inches. I was supposed to work the late shift tonight. My mom told me that I might want to think about calling out. She had just left for work, when she got the call that her store was closed for the day. I waited a little while longer, just to see if the snow would let up. Just as I picked up the phone to call my employer she called me. She wanted to know if I could come in earlier. I told her that I didn't feel comfortable driving on the roads, today, so I wasn't going to be there.
She told me that since I'm there temporarily, the holiday pay doesn't affect me (if you're there permanently, apparently if you call out for any reason you don't get paid for the holidays). I'm still worried that I may be out of a job after the holidays, though. Like they're keeping us on a list and since I called out I just got moved onto the list of people they won't call back. It may be nothing at all, but it's very hard for me to find a job anywhere for some reason, even if a place of business is hiring, so I really need this. I feel bad for calling out, but if I don't feel comfortable driving in that snow then I'm not going to risk it. I'm already a pretty lousy driver on the road in good weather.
