We're a law firm, we really don't get music.

But I do keep my Ipod in my purse at all times, so when I'm doing something I need to focus on, I put one ear phone in and concentrate on MY music. That way I can hear the phone if I'm needed or something, but in general, I can tune everything out.

The first time he saw it, the managing partner freaked until the partner I work directly for explained to him that it was just to drown out the chit chat from the cubicles around me.

kids music, with the random 80's song thrown in there. Most of the time I can't even hear it, especially on the weekends when it's just insane in the store.
If you are thinking to yourself, "Hmmm, should I post this?" it should probably go HERE.

At my store, we listen to Top 40 stuff. We used to listen to 80s rock (eh), and right now, we are supposed to listen to country (we're advertising on the local country station), but I refuse to listen to it (for the record, I actually like some country, but not for 8+ hours a day). Wish I could bring in my CDs. How about TSO all year long?
        I'm bringing disdain back...with a vengeance.

Oh, and your tool box called...you got out again.

No music where I work (The benefits of working outside) but we are subject to a nice annoucement giving out the rules and a welcome. On a sidenote, during basketball games at the player intro they have fireworks inside (Yes fireworks inside, pyrotechnics and all, I might find some pics.) They are so loud that you can hear it outside.

We have a pretty large muzak loop, as in it will repeat every few days. There are a few songs that make me laugh every time, like the Succubus song (whatever that thing's called, it's been ruined for me for forever by South Park).
There's also a few that make me want to stab my eardrum with a fork, like Woman, Do You Have Cheating On Your Mind, Bridge Over Troubled Water, and a few others.

They do have some good stuff on there too, and of course, there's always the 8 o'clock mullet rock time it seems. The hour in which we get White Snake and other big hair bands. Why, in a nationwide drug chain, I don't know, but oh well.

Some of the ads are profoundly annoying too, the worst one lately being an energy/weight loss pill that was being hawked by a used car salesman or something.

Christmas time isn't too bad, they mix in a song here and there into the regular loop. Fourth of July, however, drives me nucking futz though. There's only so many Sousa marches I can take before I go crazy. For awhile there they'd do the July 4th loop on 9/11, too. Thank goodness they've stopped that.

At work I've got a radio that gets only one english station, but it's a classic rock station so it's not a bad thing. I also have internet access so what I'll do sometimes is load a video on Youtube, minimize the window and listen to the music.

At Target we could only listen to music if we worked overnight. Other than that we didn't even get muzak, except on the holidays.

just be lucky you all get music

i have to listen to loud generators in the room next to our office, i enjoy the silence of heavy traffic when i'm driving home, just barely drowned by the random metal song i play in my car.

Now that I am in the warehouse, I get the dull roar of conveyor belts outside the office, and my iPod, and occasionally the guy in the next cube singing whatever pops into his head. I've got quite a range on my iPod of about 300 songs: everything from Disturbed and Metallica, to Coldplay, to Peter Gabriel, to Damien Rice, to Incubus, Tonic, Sara McLachlan, Stephen Lynch, some songs from Les Mis, Phantom, Chicago, and RENT, and a bunch of Comic Strip Live standup podcast episodes. (I had downloaded a bunch of Comedy Central ones too, before I realized they were video and I have a nano. Oh, well, they were free.) Needless to say, the question "what kind of music do you listen to" is very difficult for me to answer

At Kinko's, we had a muzak service...no, don't make that face, it was a really cool muzak service!

We could choose whatever station we wanted...classics, 60's, 70's 80's, jazz, alternative, americana, country, whatever we wanted. Usually, we'd have it set on 80's and play "name the tune, name the band" as we worked. When something we thought was a stumper came on, we yell to whoever we wanted to challenge and point at the ceiling (the speakers were in the ceiling). The person had to name the tune (before it became obvious what it was) , and if they wanted extra points, could name the band. One friend of mine was so good at this he would up the ante by saying something like "What movie did this get used in?" or something like that.

When we got sick of losing to that guy, we'd set it on 70's and give us old farts a chance to save a little face.

At my current job, there's no music. I either listen to my IPod, www.pandora.com (which is AMAZING and you should check it out if you haven't), or run www.YouTube.com in the corner of my screen.

At my workplace we usually have a radio battle going on. The main radio is generally tuned to some really horrible Clearlight 'classic rock' station that has maybe 100 songs on their daily list, if that. The back room radio gets tuned to anything playing disco. As the day wears on each radio gets cranked louder and louder until someone complains, then they both get turned down--until someone sneaks over and starts turning them up again. This goes on all day every day. Christmas is even worse--we have to listen to the 'all carols all the time' station to make the Christmas junkies happy, usually starting right after Thanksgiving.

Most days I bring audiobooks or my own music--I'm allowed as I don't work around moving machinery. If we're not being pushed too much I can zone out and not get driven completely insane.

When I was at the games store, we were sent a DVD every month of game previews and ads (most of all which had a soundtrack). The DVD was 20 minutes long.

That means for an 8 hour shift you heard the same thing repeat 24 times, in a week, 120 times.

Some months the soundtrack was decent enough that it didn't get overly annoying, other months...well, let's just say I wanted to shoot someone....badly.

Our store plays Craptastic music. And when I say craptastic I mean the music is Uber-Crappy. Once in a great while we get some good music in (one of my favorites they played was "I will get by/survive" by Greatful Dead. but thats IF we are lucky. Usually its just crap they play. But hey, when its Christmas time we get the pleasure of hearing "Jingle Bells" in 5 different variations (from slow, to the Ultra fast one) last year however we heard at least 10 or so variations of 'Winter Wonderland. real nice.

ouch. I've always described it as music that people over 50 listen to, because my parents love it, but I can't stand it. I'm 31. :P
Well, I'm 38, yet I'm considered part of the target audience for "smooth jazz". But just because I'm considered part of the target audience doesn't mean I have to listen to it, or like it!
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.

When I was in fast food they played Flapper-style crap. Shudder.

Now they play the supposed "variety" station. Which means we hear everything from before 1987, and "Breathe" by Faith Hill. Occasionally, that Natasha Bedingfield song will come on. And at night, we hear Delilah! (insert collective wrist-slitting.)

                                Oh god.

They're playing that goddamn Olivia Newton John song again. On repeat, it seems.
