  • I think I got some guy in serious trouble....

    Merrily I answered the phone.
    M-Me
    W-Guy's wife.
W-'Oh hello, I received a call that my husband's book had arrived. I am going to pick it, so which book is it and how much is it?
I look up the order and oh my, it's the Lost Girls Collection.
If you do not know what this is, it's a graphic novel which is really just porn featuring Alice in Wonderland, Wendy Darling etc. We get LOTS of order from guys for it. LOTS.
    M-'Uhh...It's $89.95...'
    W-'And the book?'
M-'....It's called The Lost Girls Collection...'
W-'Lost Girls? Hmmm....A collection? He said it was a small book....Hmmm...What is it about?'
    M-'.......It's a boxed set.'
I was not going to tell her it was porn!
W-'I see...Well I think I'll be by today to get it.'
M-'No! Um, it's really really big and heavy. You should send him to get it. Very heavy. Yep.'
    W-'Okay, thank you.'
    M-'You have a good day ma'am!'

I can JUST imagine the conversation if the wife caught him.

Wife: Honey, I found this collection that you ordered, care to explain?
Husband: Uh, well, I, uh, well it's not exactly mine but uh...
W: IT IS TOO YOURS!! IF YOU GET YOUR KICKS BY READING ABOUT FICTIONAL CHARACTERS IN SEXUAL EXPLOITS THEN GOOD-BYE!!! MARRY THE DAMN BOOKS FOR ALL I CARE!!!!

Um. Wouldn't, you know, a porn graphic novel starring Alice and Wendy Darling be kinda... you know... um. Wouldn't it be kiddie porn?

(Sadly enough, this whole idea actually bothers me not so much because of the kiddie porn, but rather because some hack who wants to draw nekkid underage girls is ripping some of my favorite characters out of literature and utterly perverting them to do it. But I recognize that I'm an old book geek, and what SHOULD be bothering me is the kiddie porn, and how popular it apparently is.)

The promo bumf states that the characters have grown up, and are adults for these, err, adventures.

Nah - he got himself into trouble. Some people just like to bring it crashing down on their heads.

Nope. it isn't kiddie porn per se, but i think the wiki article may sum it up. It seems work safe. But Ill ask that a NSFW warning go up anyways....

I'm a bit bothered by it, if it makes you feel any better. I grew up on these fairy tales, and to think that some horny, chauvinistic pig can't keep his grubby paws off an innocent child's tale is disturbing. Honestly, Must men turn all things into perverted stories to get their rocks off? What ever happened to getting it on with your loved one-fulfilling fantasies and all? Have your wifey dress up like Alice if you're that hot and bothered by the idea of it.

Sorry if it offends anyone, but ya know, it's the way I feel on this one.

LOL! Everytime a guy asks for these, they get super embarassed. We don't carry it so they'd have to order it. Of course, they don't want to. :P I don't know why we don't, when we carry the Big Book of Breasts and about 30 different versions of the Kama Sutra (part of my department, along with the sex book display ).

Ok I know I'm new here but this does bother me. Just because you make it a male thing. Sorry to inform you that Anne Rice already did this a decade ago in much more depraved an graphic ways with Her S&M "Sleeping Beauty" trilogy.
If the fact that it is illustrated is what bothers you might I point out that the (quite enthusuastic) artist is a woman.

I have no desire to own this but being a comic collector and fan of Alan Moore I do know a bit about it. Moore and Gebbie worked on this for 16 years! It is meant to show that erotic books/comic books can be written as an artistic endevor. This ranks up there with Madonna's book SEX in that if anyone is buying this for the porn content they will probably be sadly dissapointed. Heck just looking through a Diamond distributer previews ad will show you there is way to many Hard Core Porn comics out there, some already cover the fairy tales stuff.

Ok I'm off my soapbox. Sorry.

*ahem* it's not just men, you know. I know quite a few women that enjoy erotic fiction based on Disney movies (Little Mermaid etc) and the like. My opinion is, if you make sure the kiddywinks can't read it/see it, and you don't force it on other people, then erotic fiction is harmless.

ACTUAL child-porn, however, is a different tack altogether

I made it a male thing because it's typically something you'd find a male doing, however if it's been covered by both sexes then there ya go... ya learn something new every day. It still disturbs me either way. I don't know any history about it and don't have any desire to (because I personally think it's warped), or the fact that a woman, Anne Rice, did it earlier-shame on her for doing it too-she's just as bad then.

I never said that the illustrations are what disturbed me, I said that the idea in general is what upsets me. Thanks though.

Still a bit twisted in my mind.

                      Anyway...

That's what acting out fantasies are for-playing dress up and the likes. All I'm saying is to leave the fairy tales alone... It's not wrong to suggest that these stories be kept the innocent tales (which by the way, are meant to teach MORALS AND VALUES to kids) that they were made to be.

Actually, fairy tales weren't originally sweetness and light. Heck, in the original Sleeping Beauty the character of Sleeping Beauty didn't wake up when the prince kissed her, she woke up when her babies started nursing on her.

How, you asked, did she get pregnant? Why, our "heroic" prince saw her and thought, "Hey, I think I'll screw this unconsious girl and then leave her" and so, he did.

errr... seriously, relax There are fetishes and quirks for EVERYTHING. No one is chaining you to the bed forcing you to participate (or hell, even to LOOK), so leave people their harmless sexual foibles. Gah. I'm sorry, but geez, it's not hurting ANYBODY, and it's not in your face, so why get all up in arms about it?

You know what, most of your DISNEY fairy tales aren't anywhere near the original versions anyway. Little Mermaid? Yeah, in the original, she dies horribly, and so does her prince, I believe... You don't even want to get into Grimms' fairy tales, trust me, very gruesome. Most of them didn't start out as innocent tales to teach morals and values - most of them started out as pretty graphic stuff that was tamed for later, more prudish generations and cultures (a lot of the fairy tales we have now were adapted from European or Asian originals and VASTLY changed).

I apologize if I am being unnecessarily inflammatory It is not my intent. I just really dislike everything being moralized to death, and don't choose to subject my children to a sanitized reality (or as my ex-husband calls it, the disney-fied reality).

Okay...please keep it to the original post, and not a clash of level of morals. Everyone has their differences and that's fine (what makes the world go round), but in the past, it has turned into flame wars. Please keep it civil.
