OK, now I'm alarmed. I googled "snorting cinnamon" to see what came up, and let's just say there's a lot of folks who don't consider it a problem. For example:

"Cinnamon doesn't work, but nutmeg does." (Didn't one of our resident nurses just say snorting nutmeg is toxic?)

"Snorting cinnamon is perfectly normal. So is vomiting blood." This was in response to someone asking if vomiting blood after snorting cinnamon was bad. Holy hell.

I did indeed.

I'll keep my bath salt ingestion through my skin thank you very much... in a nice tub full of hot water. And my cinnamon... is quite happy to remain in my baking and coffee.

I reported on a patient a while back who was injecting bath salts IV, and got an abscess as a result. Oregano has been sold as fake pot for decades (it smells sweet, and looks a lot like pot that is ready for use).

People will do anything to get high, basically.

I'm guessing the manhole cover was stolen for the scrap value (if similar to UK prices they work out at £10 or equiv a go) - the glass/leaves was simply to hide the crime until they left.

I prefer my Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Clove and Allspice to be in baked goods, or mixed with honey in my tea -
they are known in "New-Age" circles for being aids in clairvoyant dreaming and meditations
Ginger can be added or substituted for any ONE spice -
that being said - the only thing I "snort" is saline solution to rinse my nasal passages when allergies are going haywire
I cannot begin to fathom what effects any of those spices would have when snorted... I can't think of a reason for doing it either....

thinking about it makes my sinuses wince ... I have done the drink a gallon of whole milk in an hour thing [and I am mildly lactose intolerant ...d'oh] but I would never snort anything

Story 1: That is no "prank", that is just plain evil. I hope the patient recovers fully, and they find the who did that, give him a nice long prison sentence AND make him pay for the patient's hospital bills!

I've had obnoxious patients threaten to leave when I worked the ER.

My stock response was, "There's the door. Don't let it hit you in the ass on the way out."

I have no time for BS in the ER. I have too many patients who WANT my help.

I - That... is completely stupid if it was a prank. Given they had no way to know he'd walk through those leaves, it probably wasn't anything else. Hope he recovers OK.

I - It didn't necessarily target the victim that got hurt. It may just have been some heartless dick swapping the manhole cover for glass and disguising it just so severely hurt someone who happened to walk over it. Didn't matter who, just so long as someone fell into it.
