Sinister injuries, exciting new drug trends, and a racist

Related to Story 3: Had a male pt come through the behavioral health center where I used to work. He was apparently racist and mysogynistic (sp) as women can 'only be nurses and can't ever be doctors'. He had to have his H&P done and threw a fit that called for serious medication and a strap down after our Asian H&P doc on call walked in. H&P cancelled for that night.

Repeat the next night when the FEMALE and INDIAN H&P doc on call walked in.

FINALLY got the H&P done the third night when the MALE and WHITE H&P doc on call came in specially for him. We made sure not to tell him that that doc was Jewish though.

He was shipped to state specialty psych hospital ASAP.

Story 1 makes me in alarm. That is some seriously F'd up sh*t.

Story 2 makes me as well. SNORTING cinnamon? It makes me wince just thinking about it.

Story 3 makes me . But you have to admire the guy sticking to his convictions, however hateful or controversial they may be. Offered a choice between sticking to them and suffering, or going back on them and receiving treatment, he stuck to them.

-- Patient was admitted with severe lacerations. Patient was immediately taken to O.R. and still almost lost limbs. Why? Because, according to the report, someone had stolen a manhole cover in the patient's neighborhood, covered the hole with a sheet of glass, then covered the glass with leaves. Patient went for a walk, walked across what they thought was a patch of leaves, and fell through the glass. That goes way beyond prank.

-- Apparently the hot new trend in drug use in my city is snorting cinnamon -- because, you know, "bath salts" are just so last year. More than one patient was brought in supposedly under the influence of cinnamon, and it took about six people per patient to hold them down long enough to strap them to the bed.

-- Patient was brought in because of drunkeness and some kind of cut. What kind of cut and exactly how serious was never ascertained because patient was a virulent misogynist and racist, and refused to let the E.R. staff -- which is largely composed of women, minorities, and sometimes even people who exhibit both of those characteristics -- work on him. Patient had IHATE tattooed across the fingers of one hand and NIGAS on the fingers of the other hand. Patient was offered the choice of shutting up and being treated or leaving. When he chose to leave, he was told, "There's the door. Get out." -- direct quote.

When Sturdy Nurse texted to tell me about the last one, I remarked that it would have been funnier had the fingers read I HATE NAGAS, because who could hate a mythological snake creature?
