I'd say I hate to say it but...no, I don't. It needs to be said. Your parental unit needs to butt out of things like this or you'll never have true control of your life. If anything, he undermined YOUR authority and almost cost you a notary signature. It was completely his suck. He may have meant well, but it was still his suck.

I agree, go by yourself whenever possible and if you have to go with your parental unit ask him to sit out in the vehicle or wait outside the area you're at.
If I make no sense, I apologize. I'm constantly interrupted by an actual toddler.

The notary has to follow the rules and making sure your ID matches the paperwork is one of them. I have to have a $5000.00 bond to be a notary, so yeah, gotta follow the rules.

Echo what others had said. The notary was being extra careful. Yeah, that may take longer and cause a few more headaches on your end, but your dad was surly and rude and looking to pick a fight. And now by giving you the cold shoulder, he's being childish.

I'm pretty sure that in most states notaries are *personally* liable for their work. I don't blame him a bit.
They are in my state. Just like when I ID someone for alcohol, having a customer tell me they're legit isn't enough to sway me when it's my own ass on the line.

I think some people just have to feel that they're right all the time.
            Some do, I'd agree.

But I would take it further and say that some have a pathological need to be right. They HAVE TO be right under whatever circumstances, and cannot accept (and can't take) that they might be (or are) wrong. I've dealt with a few of these guys on some other forums that I occasionally go to. They will say that they can admit to being wrong, but their actual actions and typed words say otherwise.

I heard a great one that I've used before, but more in an amusing manner:

"If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong."

Your dad was completely in the wrong.

Notaries aren't just personally liable, but they are legally liable. Meaning they can have the pants sued off them if they notarize something and it turns out to be fake. They can also have their license taken away if they're found to not be diligent enough.

Your dad's method of dealing with arguments is to go passive-aggressive and start a cold war? What is he, twelve?
