The word "Free" stimulates that part of the reptilian brain and causes all higher functions to temporarily cease until the free item has been obtained, FOR FREE, it's not important what it is, or even IF you want it, the fact is, you got it for FREE while everyone else HAD TO PAY which makes you superior!
Yep. Main example of this : My husband. Will get up early ( a no no for him), will spend ages trying to get it, or will spend more money trying to *use* it (if its not food) than buying a proper one would have cost in the first place.

Its like when I stepped back from a "charity" gig that we did hundreds of hours of work for each year. It worked out at like 50p an hour but because you got the "free" event ticket that was worth so much and me stepping back (because they seriously insulted me and the work we were doing) was the worst thing EVER! Insult and hurt the wife all you like if you give him a "free" ticket in the process....

People will line up for hours, DAYS even to get a chance at the FREE!!!!

I'll bet you could even cause this behavior with a sign reading

    " FREE AMPUTATIONS "

The first guy gets free donuts for a year and diabetes for the rest of his life?
Nah, the diabetes is just the icing on the cake donut

I've never understood the KK infatuation.

As a former Mr. Donut baker, I'd say they are superb, FRESH.
THIS. A thousand times this. When the boss brings in some KK for the office (WHY?! There are two local places that make them so much better!), I ask how long they've been there. An hour or more? Pass. Not worth it.

I like their burgers. At the very least, when they do the burgers RIGHT (which is most of the time), they're a major improvement over Clownburgers, Red-head burgers, and Royales >_> That, and, I would kill for one of their Cokes (or Dr Peppers! -- no, not "Cherry Coke." Ew.) laced with so much "cherry" syrup that the drink comes out more red than not...

Next time I'm at the AF Museum, might have to check that out...
They're very non-nondescript, and easy to miss even when you've been there before. The donuts are rather good, even if they don't do anything as wild as Voodoo (which I like too, but Portland's a bit of a drive for a donut ).

Frankly, I was shocked anyone on a national level even knew the place existed!

PS: Grab a Marion's pizza while you're here too. One of the best thin-crust pizza's I've ever had. Its even good cold. I think they lace their sausage with crack.

Same thing when one opened here in Jersey. They had to have the police direct traffic, as it was located on a very busy highway. For about a week! I think the newness quickly wore off, but I concur, wasn't all that impressed with it.

Similar thing happened in my city when the first Sonic location opened a few years ago. For about two solid months there was over an HOUR wait.... for Drive-Trough! The line for Drive-IN may have been worse, but I don't recall. For those outside the US, Sonic is a recreation of the old-fashioned American Drive In. You would park your car, and an employee would come out to your car on roller skates to deliver your food on a tray you would attach to your driver's door.

I admit, after seeing their commercials on TBS for 4 years prior to them actually being within 200 miles of me, I really wanted to go there.

But, when I actually had the food.... Blah. Shakes are really good, but the burgers are just, meh. Now, there are a couple more locations an town and none of them are ever really jam-packed.

Am I the only one reminded of a head-shop that opened... directly between a police station a doughnut shop? I can only imagine the looks on the cops' faces.

    And it got better....

The council in that area has racked up $21,000 in parking fines from the first week ALONE. Normally their take-in is MUCH lower than that.

I had the dubious pleasure of working the single busiest open of any store in our (large, international)franchise ever. We were elbow to elbow and standing in about 2 inches of spilled toppings/wrappers 20 hours a day. We had to park in a cornfield and hike into the store. This lasted for months. People are _crazy_.

We have Panera's here. There's one on the busiest street in town and I go there sometimes. Good food, good pastries. Just watch out for the cinnamon bagels. My last one set the toaster oven on fire

We got a Five Guys burger place a while ago, too. Is it bad that I was more excited about the different flavors of soda you can get there than I was about the food?

When they started opening 5 Guys burgers in my area, everyone was like oooooh, and aaaaah, and there were lines out the door. So eventually I tried them. Meh.
I had the same reaction to Chick-fil-a.

They may be donuts, but they're FREE donuts. The emphasis is on the "FREE" part.

I've experienced a similar situation with Harvey's burgers. One day, Harvey's offered free original hamburgers to everyone. The line was incredibly long and the wait to get a free burger took forever, but we got our three. We even went to another Harvey's to get another three free burgers!

Also on the topic of free food: one of my friends lined up with his brother for about four hours for a free meal at Mandarin, an all-you-can eat Asian buffet restaurant! You were only allowed to eat for 2 hours, and the food probably wasn't the best that the restaurant had to offer, though.

Never seen the appeal in KK - then again they don't exist in NZ. The only 'major' donut chain we have here is doonkin don-notz (though there is one other very small company that I only know of one shop in Auckland City, they could possibly have other shops.)

Personally I'll stick with the old-fashioned ones you get from the fish and chip shop ^_^

No comment. This joke writes itself.
Oh don't worry, the police saw the funny side of it as well.

And as an admitted sugar addict, that can happily eat a family sized bag of Allen's lollies in half a movie, I can say that those doughnuts are so full of sugar that they make me ill. 2 bites of a 'plain' one and I was completely hyper.
I've avoided them period. This is despite the fact that there is a 7-11 up the road from my house.
